Home Page : Section for threads filtered on basis of latest reply

Hello Admin ,

I have a suggestion related to your main/home page outlook.
OR you can say about how you manage your threads on main page to attract more members.

Right now you have three categories .


1 - Latest Talk Shows
2 - Latest Threads
3 - Hot & Most Recent Threads

Well , Latest Talk Shows section is good . Should be there .
Latest Thread section is also OK.

But 3rd section is a bit ambiguous , I dun know what is the metric of "Hotness" :) , either number of replies , number of views , recent replies etc etc.

I think it should be replaced with just "Recently Active threads section " in which all the threads(talk shows+siasi discussion+siasi videos) should be filtered based on "Latest Reply".

Its a very serious and sincere suggestion for you siasat.pk :-) , I used to be a regular and very active member of FK and the only thing which always pushed me to visit FK was this "Recently Active thread section" , As due to this section , we can see whats going on and on what thread members are taking more interest , Who made the last reply and on what thread .... and seriously it can dramatically improve the member's participation on "comments" section .

I think , just remove "hotness" filter and make it as "Recently Active Threads" , you can have a smaller widget of "Most HOT threads in last 8 hours" , a similar widget like Blogs.

Just try it and you would feel how it will increase the member interest in replying.

If hotness is measured in number of replies then a stupid joke thread could be at the top pushing a serious topic downward. Would that be a good idea? I don't think so.

That's exactly what it is pretty much. Except the thread has to have 5 replies in order to display there. After that everytime there is a comment on a thread, it shows up there.

I mean dun rely on thread Topic to get popularity of 5 comments , but rather let it mature itself in terms of member's discussion ..

What i am seeing here on siaisat.pk that there are two options for people to give attention to a thread.

Either a thread shud be very latest . (from thread starting time )
OR thread has at least 5 posts .

But you know sometime a thread may have 4 posts/replies but it gets bogged down due to aging (thread posting time).

If you would implement only "Latest Reply" filter than it can also accommodate discussion on talk shows ..
I'm sure that you have noticed that in HOT threads section , there are almost no talk shows threads.Means people are not commenting on talk shows as much they shud be.

You may have better statistics than me , but here in "Hot threads" section you can rarely find a talk show thread and even if you find one , its very old ( due to 5 comments filter )

you can see , today we have one talk show i.e; Mere Mutabiq , and his journey to hot threads section got success after 1 day :-) when all that discussion is almost died :-)

....

Its better to try out "latest reply" option for mentioned three categories (talk shows+siasi discussion+siasi videos) , at least for 1 week
and than compare your comments/ members participation statistics with hot threads stats .
m dead sure that you wud see an increase in users comments .

thats why it shud be limited to political section , not for "non-siasi discussion or non-siasi videos"..


You know my point is to "encourage members for commenting" ...

Also add a Hack of "users watching this thread" , i mean make it interesting for members to reply on threads , comments , indulge in debates , discussions ...
....


Yes it would make moderators to toil a bit :)
keep an eye of whose saying and what due to large number of replies and intense heated debate , but that seriously would effect your memberships , trust me.

If I let it show after the first reply, you will see the same threads on , latest threads widgets and hot and active widget. It is already on the main page so why display it twice? Do you get me?

The talk shows are already displaying on the left already. Again, why let it display on the right again, just after one comment?

Yes i knew that you would raise this point :-) ,

Well i think you dun like to add flash content on home page due to SEO ... thats why you wont be interested of having a widget for Latest threads , in which 10-20 threads can scroll up n down in groups of 5 at a time , m sure u know wat i mean.

but for "Latest Reply" section , you can make it different from "Latest Thread" by putting a condition of "one reply at least".

But somehow its a tricky decision to choose the right filtering , condition etc .

If its not possible..

Just add a hack showing "number of comments/replies" for a thread , just to let members know that this thread has got 7 replies so far or 5 replies ...
It would also attract member attention.

Sometime , we may not have interest in "Thread topic" but we just like to participate in discussion because of "comments" that thread has received .
