FBI Can Remotely Activate Your Android Phone Mic or Laptop Cameras: Report

It wasnt long ago when whole world was shocked at the revelation that NSA (National Security Agency) and FBI of United States of America has direct access to the servers of Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Skype, Yahoo, Apple and other internet companies, from where they can extract any user information at their will, without any authorization or approval required from justice and legal departments.

Situation has only worsen with this new finding that FBI can remotely activate the microphones and cameras of your smartphones running Googles Android platform and laptops without users consent, reported WSJ.

Report said that FBI has been developing such hacking and surveillance tools for last ten years. Additionally, there are private firms which sell them such tools to spy the users. Without a doubt as unveiled earlier FBI has support from technology companies, such as Google, Microsoft, Apple and others.

Moreover, FBI uses spyware tools to record keystrokes or almost any activity on a computer or smartphone.

Report says that there are usually warrants required to undergo such surveillance on suspects, however, it argues that there were instances when FBI had recorded users data without any legal authorization.

With plenty of criticism about NSAs PRISM program, this new hacking and spying practices from US law enforcement agencies are going to further hike the distrust level of technology users.

It merits mentioning here that there are over 900 million users with Android devices.

These revelations also raise serious questions about the privacy of individuals, which is seemingly brutally murdered by American government and agencies and buried hundreds of miles down under the turf.

Third world citizens are in desperate position, who had embraced these emerging technology gadgets and software for simplifying their lives, but ended up only to be watched by the American government.

Our own government, which can question American government about such shameless practices, is busy doing so many other use-less things.

software hacking is possible, not hardware. and there are so many ghost softwares which can keep check on such attempts.... proxey tunnels , and other shields are widely used to protect against such acts...

I m not commenting blindely... i m involved with plc (software as well as hardware manipulations in my careeer) light and cameras are interlocked. just try turning on ur camera while ur light is off.... u need to change whole lines of programming only to turn on the camera .that is we call bypassing . for that ur eproms are manipulated... there r few command which u can change easily (application specific).... again hardwares are interlocked and can not b bypassed till u play with the hardware (assembley language) .... i m not from software , instrument or electrical field but needs of the field has given us few experties...

let me make it simple for u. u are an engineer and u made a camera with LED. u are the maker of this hardware and u can do whatever u want. turn it on without the small LED notifier or not depends on ur well. similarly america has made all the technology stuff , they can control it in whatever they want.

Thats a myth that they created every thing... they didn't,,,, I agree that they developed so many gadgets , this does not mean that they have track record of each and every single line of programming and other inside stuff... otherwise chinese couldnot hack their stuff by their indeginious hardwares....

for spying u always need hardware support as well,,, like access to internet, and there are few commands inside ur operating system need to b activated or otherwise some sort of hacking software must be installed on ur computers(i.e. u download some files unknowingly and allow others to keep track of u)...

Boss i was with ABB... software and PLC developers...

I agree with shafi3859. Whenever someone hacks the cam, the light goes on...and it's really easy for professionals to hack laptops and smart phones...

There is no one camera type in all laptops/desktops. Each of these cameras have difference device drivers. FBI will have to have a hacked version of each of the cameras, identify the camera in your machine, install a bespoke device driver and then see the camera. Is possible but not very practical

Latest gadgets are worst form of privacy invasion. They pin point your location 24 hours a day. Even when your GPS is turned off.
Your every text message, email, tweet, call are being recorded.
And this data never gets deleted.

you do have a point there...but considering government's resources and powers its not impossible to do so...
