Q. Axact has caused a big sensation in Pak media. Every channel has exclusive stories and unending coverage to this story. What is your opinion?
A. I am confused. I have some contradictory opinions and I as I am not sure, any of these could be correct and all could be wrong.
1. This is how, it is being reported. In my view it is very much unlikely. Why?
a. If it is the way, it is being reported then, its subsidiary which, could even be a bigger project, would have been allowed three or four years ago. Because Pakistan is heaven for all number two projects. Pay the dues and you will get permit, whatever you do. Why this company is not being allowed for such a long period.
b. This reminds me of BCCI saga. Axact could be the same. USA is a big market of both real and fake educational qualifications. In both cases, Axact was making a big chunk of that money, and that money was not being invested in USA or other developed countries but in Pakistan. This is not acceptable to USA.
c. A powerful media group could be a threat to present Pakistani media groups, including Jang, ARY, Express. In my understanding Jang and Express source NY Times for many of their news and features. BOL could be a big threat for these group and NY Times might have given helping hand to their allies and partners in propaganda market.
2. This is how, it is being reported. This could be right. Why?
Because Pakistanis can do anything. It is very much normal although very shameful.
3. This third possibility seems to be plausible and that is publicity stunt. NY Times may be BOL partner in propaganda market. Why?
a. NY Times may in course of time apologize for wrong reporting and pay some compensation to Axact, and FIA may have to declare Axact innocent. BOL may be allowed to start their business.
b. Present coverage is such a big publicity for BOL that even after billions of advertisement, they might not have been able to get that mass attention. As a result, right from the very first day they will be the biggest Pakistani channel.
Let’s see what’s going to happen.
