Amin Fahims daughter given diplomatic post
Updated at: 1035 PST, Monday, December 22, 2008

Amin Fahims daughter given diplomatic post ISLAMABAD: Maliha Makhdoom, daughter of the PPP diehard loyalist and Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim (MAF), has been appointed as first secretary to Ireland.

She has been hired as a Foreign Service official without fulfilling the prerequisites of appearing in the CSS examination and going through 18-month training in two different academies.

Her appointment has been facilitated at the behest of the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. While following PMs verbal orders, Foreign Secretarys office moved the summary for appointment of Amin Fahims daughter.

While talking to The News, Maliha Makhdoom confirmed that she would be leaving for her high profile job of a diplomat in the first week of January.

When correspondent asked Maliha Makhdoom if she had taken the CSS examinations as a must requirement, she refused to respond. When this correspondent told her that she had been appointed on the verbal orders of the prime minister, she said there was no harm in it.

This correspondent confronted by asking her if it was the right way to occupy a challenging post of a diplomat. To this she said, Ask the relevant department.

Deja Vu?

PPP not meeting the expectations of people after becoming a government. Can't say that I have not felt like this before. If the report is true, the most tragic fact is that India can use this information to prove its case that Pakistan's government is corrupt. Who can blame them? However, I would like to hear what Mr. Fahim has to say about it. He should be given the chance to defend himself and set the record straight. I sincerely hope that the report is inaccurate. If the report is true, I don't have the same respect for Mr. Fahim as I used to.

I am also surprised by the fact that PPP had the audacity to go through another scandal while majority of the Pakistanis are living under the fear of war.
I also think that journalists should get to the bottom of this.

As a Pakistani, I feel sorry for our nation, which continues to be a subject of one dictator to another. When a chance is given to the people of Pakistan to elect their leaders, the leaders embarrass the nation by pointing out to the people that they made a wrong choice.

I can understand that PPP is a relatively young government and will make mistakes in its tenure. It is granted that it was not expecting a huge tension between Pakistan and India within the first year of its tenure, with so many domestic problems already on its plate. However, this scandal could have been easily avoided by simply following the rule of law. May be we should have a monarchy, where kings and queens can appoint their diplomats from within the royal blood. Talent and competence, who cares?

From a very pessimistic Pakistani, living abroad. I had to move out of Pakistan to make a living based on my potential and competence. Unfortunately, I did not have relatives at high places.

To add Fahim's two sons have also benefited from the latest arrangement.

Jamil is back in the assembly with the hope of becoming governor or CM one day.

His other son is heading the Transport in Sindh (very lucrative)

On Fahim's daughter, She has been made first secretary.
That is a 19 grade position.

* The normal procedure is that you sit the CSS exams. SHE DIDN'T
* Out of all the thousands who pass CSS the very best normally the top 10/15 are selected for foreign service.
* You go through a 2 year further course.
* You get posted as a 3rd secreteray in some embassy
* Then you get posted as a 2nd secretary
* Then you get to where Maliha Jee has reached

So she has just managed to accelerate her career by skipping about 5 years of service, 2 years of training and an extremely tough examination.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim has just lost a lot of respect and with him going down as well, the PPP seems to be biting the dust.

This is the true face of PPPP politics. This is the point at which we must realise that why
Pakistan is not developed yet.We have to tell the people using media about each and every action the government takes against Pakistan interests.Beacause this would be heplful to open the eyes of our new generation. And in the future they might reject these corrupt leaders InshaAllah.
And I am 100% agreed aupon that they have done this appointment with no merit rules.

By the way, the intent of my previous post was not to bash PPP. I am just very disappointed by thye sorry state of affairs of Pakistan.

I am pretty sure that other parties do the same. We, as PAkistanis, should isolate such politicians that are corrupt. Against whom we have evidence. Regardless of their political affiliations. If the report is true, Mr. Gilani and Mr. Fahim should not get our votes in the future.

Pakistan needs a lot of improvements. We can't make all the changes in one day. I believe that PPP should be allowed to govern for the whole term.

As far as Mr. Fahim's daughter is concerned, we should monitor the situation. If the government does not make any changes then the Pakistanis living abroad should contact the Irish government and inform them of their forthcoming diplomat from Pakistan. Irish government has the right to know that they will be wasting their time with a person who is not trained to have a political and diplomatic discourse with them.
