75pc get free treatment at Shaukat Khanum

LAHORE: Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has spent Rs14.72 billion on the treatment of poor patients since its inception, including Rs2.65 bil-lion, in the year 2013.

According to a press release, Shaukat Khanum hospital continued to provide state-of-the-art cancer care to patients irrespective of their ability to pay. Almost 75 per cent of hospital patients are being treated free of cost.

In 2013, hospital`s intake of new cancer patients was 9,211, while the hospital recorded nearly 175,000 visits of the patients in the outpatient department. Some 33,783 patients received chemotherapy and 53,451 got the radiation treatment in 2013.

Pakistan is among the countries which have the largest ratio of breast cancer in the region. In view of the increasing number of cancer patients, a Women Imaging Unit was established to diagnose and treat such patients in the hospital.

SKMCH&RC also openeda new Short Stay Unit and a Discharge Lounge to provide better facilities to the people. A new phase of ICU was also established to provide treatment to patients that are at high risk andneed proper monitoring.

Similarly, two new radiation bunkers were built to install two new linear accelerators.

These machines will reduce the load of patients on the radiation department. As such with these additions, hospital`s radiation department has become one of the largest centre in the region to provide such facilities.

More indigent cancer patients were treated free of cost in 2013 as compared to the previous year in Diagnostic Centre and Clinic in Karachi. A plan was also devised to open a Walkin Clinic in Multan witha view to facilitate the patients from southern Punjab and Balochistan.

In order to complete the ongoing projects and also to provide cancer treatment to maximum number of patients, the hospital has set abudget of Rs6.8 billion for the year 2014.

According to the press release, the construction of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Peshawar continues apace.

If this is true, I am sure you can file a complaint with the hospital.
However, I want to mention a couple of things here. Oncologists take all the time they can in order to make sure they diagnose cancer correctly. Most cancer diagnoses involve biopsies, which require time to ensure proper treatment. And secondly, all responsible cancer hospitals will have an age-to-stage limit on treating cancer patients. That means that it doesnt make sense to give chemo to a 75 year old with stage 3 cancer..so most hospitals will refuse. I dont know how old your aunt is, but Im just highlighting possible reasons.

Finally, I pray that your aunt gets well soon inshaAllah....and if someone has really wronged them in SKMH, then I hope they are taken to task for it.

my uncle was refused as well, even after early diagnostic of leukemia aged 35 and passed away after 3 years private treatment. hospital did not had enough space to treat all patients.
but i am thankful for skmhc for so many successful stories, sadly my was not one of it.
may Allah give your aunt complete health and long life. ameen

I am really sorry to hear your story but believe me brother I know many people who really got good care and well now.
We are living in a society where things are not perfect or even up to the task but no doubt Shaukat Khanam is still the best what we have available in Pakistan.

I have seen people heal , its time to treat her with Frequency , Good Hearted Frequency ...... Please recite Surah Rehman Around her , and if possible a tape must play it all the Times , And there is another thing that is very very helpful , i will tell you.

These Doctors cant heal the spreading Cancer , only Good Frequency can.

Really sorry to find out about your aunt and thanks for sharing you experience with us. I think you should raise your concern and submit you complaint as it is not fair to leave you with unanswered questions. Clarification must be made by SKMH that what could be the reason of delaying your aunt's tests and than refusal for treatment. There must be some rational behind it otherwise it is professional neglection by them. It is good to see that you are still positive about Mr Khan. Please do not give up and write to the in charge of SKMH and also bring this issue to MR KHan's attention. Try to send him email.

Main Inshallah pehle din k checkup se le ker 2 month k aakhri checkup tak ke reports kisi na kisi tarikay se Khan sahab tak zaroor pohanchaou ga,, magar iss waqt main iss position main nahi,, i dont want k kisi aur cancer k patient k saath aisa repeat keeya jaey,,
