Pakistan had Iran's full support since the beginning and Iran was actually the first country to recognize Pakistan's independence in 1947.

Iran lost respect for Pakistan after 1971 war with India when we lost Bangladesh and territories in Kashmir such as Kargil.

If India could dismantle East Pakistan which was more populated than West Pakistan then according to Iranian thinkers it was only a matter of time until India will dismantle West Pakistan and the Iranians army has to be ready to take control of Balochistan before the Indians get there. History didn't actually play out like that but it was a possibility.

Iran recognized Pakistan but didn't want a merger at all. Who in his senses would even think to merge his stable kingdom with an infact country? Friendly relations remained till 1979. After revolution, the relations turned opposite altogether.
