Wayne Rooney admits Manchester United were "not good enough" in their 4-1 hammering by Manchester City on Sunday.
United were beaten 4-1 by Manuel Pellegrini's men, their heaviest away defeat in the fixture since 2004.

Rooney scored a late consolation for United - making him the highest scorer in the derby with 11 - and he was the only player absolved of blame by boss David Moyes.

Rooney told MUTV: "It is not good enough. We know we have to improve and stop giving these sloppy goals away.

It is not nice to lose to City. It was a bad result and we are all extremely disappointed. It is nice to score but it means nothing.

"The most important thing today was the points and we have come away with none."

Next up for United are their old rivals Liverpool in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

The Reds will be bolstered by the return of Luis Suarez, giving an additional twist to what is always a passionate occasion.

The defeat is good lesson for united. It's very difficult to compete against the top teams in PL if you have starting line up with so many average players like Young, Wellback, Smalling, Valencia and aging players like Ferdinand and Evra. Young and Welback don't deserve to wear a united shirt. Valencia is a one dimensional player; Ferdinand should play now only in selected games. Smalling should only play as a CB not as a FB.
Ok, if you really want to start with these players then you should start with a proper formation to combat the superior teams; David Moyes changed the formation but it was too late, the damage was already done. Anyhow, the change of formation stopped further humiliation.

100 % agree bro young is the most over rated player ever to wear a united jersey need some creative midfielders current midfield passed it there days are gone ages ago anyway we over achived with this team last season if we finish in top four this season that will be big achievement for us comparing the rest of the team in top 6 we got the weakest midfield need to spend big money coming January

Man Utd's real strength was Sir Alex Ferguson. It's almost impossible for David Moyes to produce similar miracles nor does he seem to be that good in the transfer market. DM seems to be out of place signing overrated ones like Marouane Fellaini who is no way near worth 28 million he paid for him. They should have gone for Jose Mourinho who was available at the time. Rooney is also incredibly overrated, just another media creation.

lol yea, it was the worst united played for a while. but when they woke up after 50 minutes, they had already conceded 4 goals. So no way back despite keeping 80 percent of possession for the rest of the game. A bit unlucky though, could have scored a couple more but still, deserved defeat for playing badly.
