Wasim Akram marries Australian girlfriend

Famed Pakistan paceman Wasim Akram on Wednesday announced that he had married his Australian girlfriend, Shaniera Thompson, saying he has started a new life on a happy note.


“I married Shaniera in Lahore last week in a simple ceremony and this is the start of a new life for me, my wife and for my kids,” Wasim told AFP.


The 47-year-old’s first wife Huma died in 2009 after multiple organ failure.


Wasim proposed to 30-year-old Thompson, a former public relations consultant, on bended knee last month.
Thompson came to Karachi earlier this month before going to Lahore to see Wasim’s ailing father, where the marriage was solemnised.


Wasim said Thompson had converted to Islam and is learning Urdu.



“She has embraced Islam and is learning our language. She has been close to my sons and they form a very good bond,” said Wasim of his two sons from his first marriage.



Wasim played 104 Tests and 356 one-day internationals for Pakistan in a career lasting from 1984 to 2003.
He was regarded as one of the best left-arm fast bowlers to have played the game and remains a major celebrity in Pakistan.



Wasim was player of the tournament in the country’s only triumph in the World Cup, in Australia in 1992. He captained Pakistan to a runners-up finish in the 1999 World Cup in England.

Wasim was one of the best bowler and won matches for Pakistan, but at the same time he made Pakistan lost many matches because of match fixing, he did not play 1996 Bangalore "India Pak quarter final" cuz of fixing. He try o ruin Waqar younis's career by keeping him out of the team for 2 years , he messed with Rashid Latif's career.
His performance in cricket was God gifted but as a person what have he done for Pakistan. After retirement what has given to Pakisan cricket? Why was he so desperate to go and spend most of his time in India after his wife's death?
What was the need of sitting in Bollywood shows and become judge in dancing competitions? Did Pakistan deserve that from their Hero? Jo real hero hota hye wo undhoun ko bi Nazar aa jata hye.
Aur Haan hum bilkul bakhshtay hain kisi ko.
"Imran Khan " ko , because he have kept himself as our hero. Hero tabhi Hero rehta hye if he carries that all his life warna aik minute mein zero ho jata hye. I may agree with you on a few points, but what does it have to do with his personal life. Interfering and judging others personal life, is what played a major role in destroying IK's marriage.. Do you want to see the same happening to this couple as well? I dont see anything wrong with this marriage... Yes, going to india and other stuff you mentioned must be criticized separately but why this marriage!

We should not get into the discussion if he is right or wrong, since Wasim Akram is the only 1 to judge that for himself. As a national hero, we should only wish him the best of luck..

I haven't said that there is anything wrong about his 2nd marriage , I am only judging him on his credibility and the sort of person he is. Who am I to interfere in his personal life and what does my comments mean to him or even you guys ? Nothing really. I only commented about his personality and you all can have different opinion about him.
Ok let me correct myself, may be i am too sinical.
I wish him luck in his married life.
2nd marriage is not a sin, but the way you do it, when u do it and who u do it with can be talked about.
Had it been his 1st marriage with Shaneira, that would have been different.
Nothing against Shaneira Thompson, she may be a better person than Wasim.
I am only critical about "That how can u say on media that I HAVE FOUND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE " when you have children of 17 years and 13 years old , when your wife have passed away. What message he has given to his children and his first wife's family, don't they all deserve better than this. Or should I say how can u fell in love with two grown up children at the age nearing 50. Yes you can get married , do it calmly with some one who know u and from your culture and to a person of similar age.
LOVE , what LOVE? Shaneira Thompson is 30 now and was 19 years of age when Wasim got retired almost 10, 11 years before, what has she seen of Wasim to know about him or to fell in love with him. How much time Wasim had spent in Australia in last 10 years or was Shaneira living in India in the past 4 years to see the best of him.
Anyways I am not against their marriage, I just don't like Wasim's attitude towards things.
