ISL AMABA D: Unauthorised license plates were removed from hundreds of vehicles belonging to police officials on Tuesday but not one official was fined for violating the rules, police officials told Dawn.
The plates were removed from the vehicles of officials who are either stationed at the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Office or were visiting on Tuesday, the officials said.
According to an ITP statement, the senior superintendent of police ordered for the removal of unauthorised registered plates from the cars of hundreds of police officials at the ITP office.
It said 16,721 fines were issued for the use of unauthorised registration plates and the use of 5,028 unregistered vehicles.
The fines were issued under section 23 of Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 and section 32 of the Motor Vehicle Rules 1969, the statement said.
It went on to say that 3,942 vehicles were also impounded at various police stations.
Some 65 checkpoints were set up across the capital city to take action against the use of unauthorised registration plates at which an SP, three DSPs, 17 inspectors, 342 ITP officials along with Excise and Taxation officials were deployed.
SSP Traffic Police Malik Matloob said he was supervising the crackdown against unauthorised registration plates on vehicles and that the law will be implemented equally and without discrimination.
