لاہور میں میڈیا کے نمائندوں سے بات کے دوران جب ایک صحافی نے علیم ڈار سے ان کے داڑھی رکھنے سے متعلق سوال کیا تو ان کا کہنا تھا کہ جنوبی افریقا کے بلے باز ہاشم آملہ کی درخواست پر انہوں نے داڑھی رکھی۔ علیم ڈار نے بتایا کہ ایک مرتبہ ہاشم آملہ نے مجھ سے کہا کہ آپ داڑھی رکھ لیں اور اس بات نے مجھے بہت متاثر کیا جس کے بعد میں نے داڑھی رکھنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔
علیم ڈار کا کہنا تھا کہ ویسٹ انڈیز سے تعلق رکھنے والے سابق امپائر اسٹیو بکنر ان کے پسندیدہ ترین امپائر تھے جن سے وہ بہت متاثر تھے۔

He was probably talking about umpires that he worked with. Dar started international umpiring in 2000 and Dickie Bird had already retired in 1996.

In case he did not know ... I was letting him that there once was an umpire known as Dickey Bird..... whose decisions were known through out the Cricket world....
of course this chap is not that old to be called his budy...
