Author and journalist Tarek Fatah has revealed that the social networking website Facebook has suspended his account. Fatah is an Islamic scholar and also a columnist who has been known for his remarks that have reportedly generated controversies due to their divisive political stances. Fatah, a Pakistan-born Canadian national, took to Twitter to post this message: As if being on the ISIS death list werent enough, Facebook suspends me. This calls for a book titled: White Guilt and Brown B*******.

The ISIS reference by Fatah is regarding a report that the writer is being targetted by the terror group on his India visit. The information was revealed by two of the four terror suspects who were arrested by the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) during interrogation. According to an Indian Express report, in a joint operation of ATS spanning five states, cops had arrested Nazim Shamshad alias Umar, Zeeshan alias Ghazi Baba alias Muzammil, Faizan alias Mufti and Ahtesham. They were caught from Mumbai, Punjab, Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, respectively. Faizan and Ahtesham, during the 8-day police custody, had revealed the plan to attack Tarek Fatah.

It is still unclear why Facebook decided to suspend the account of Tarek Fatah nor has it explained where he ran afoul of its terms and conditions. Facebook generally suspends accounts on the platform when those IDs receive numerous complaints based on offensive and hurtful comments. But that has not stopped Fatah from his continuous barrage of contentious comments on other social media websites, including Twitter he has been commenting on most delicate issues.

Earlier in February, a Bareilly-based religious organisation All India Faizan-e-Madina Council has announced a bounty of Rs 10,786 for beheading Fatah. The organisation had accused Fatah of promoting anti-Muslim sentiments on his TV show. In a post on Twitter, the 67-year old journalist had stated that he is not scared by the death threats against him. A bounty on my head, Indian Mullahs on my tail, Jihadis lusting my blood, but they dont scare me, he had tweeted.
