Saidu hospital to get more dengue screening machines.
MINGORA, Sept 8: The provincial health department would hand over two more entomology analyser machines to Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital (SGTH), Swat on Monday.
The Punjab government had already donated two entomology analyser machines to the hospital for speedy diagnosis of dengue patients, whose number is on the rise in the district.
According to official sources, the SGTH administration had requested the provincial health department to provide it with two more entomology analyser machines owing to increase in the number of dengue patients at the hospital.
They said that the department accepted the request and two more dengue screening machines would be handed over to the hospital on Monday.
Punjab Health Secretary Hassan Iqbal had donated two entomology analyser machines to the people of Swat on August 28. SGTH officials said that they would be in a position to attend and facilitate dengue patients in a better way after getting two more machines.
On other hand, the district administration established a 100-bed emergency ward on the premises of SGTH on Sunday.
Acting deputy commissioner Farukh Atique told Dawn that the administration took the decision owing to increase in the number of dengue patients. He said that the emergency ward was set up with the assiatnce of district health department and Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiatives (PPHI).
The official said that PPHI provided 12 doctors along with paramedical staff to run the emergency ward and assist the SGTH team in treatment of dengue patients. The ward is functional and we are ready to attend patients, he said, adding that their joint efforts would be continued to control the epidemic.
According to Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit at SGTH, 54 more residents of Swat were tested positive for dengue on Sunday, taking the number of patients to 2,454 in the district.
He said that 1,468 out of 2,454 confirmed dengue cases were admitted to the hospital. He added that 1,195 persons were discharged after completion of treatment.
Dr Wasil said that 249 patients were under treatment at the hospital including 176 men, 73 women and 16 children.
He said that six patients were in critical conditions. He added that two patients were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar while four to intensive care unit of SGTH from where four other patients were discharged after completion of their treatment.

Brother they (Noora & Company) can't help it since they (Noora & Company) do it all the time, they (Noora & Company) think everyone else is same as them. These 'sissies' can't leave their abode without 40 or 50 car protocol so there's no way they (Noora & Company) can make 'surprise' inspections. We all have heard how Showbaz has been made 'mamoo' on many occasions one very recently when Showbaz supposedly went to inspect a Flood-Relief Camp.
