String/M-Theory is an extention of Quantum Mechanics just like QED and QCD was. Really messes your mind up. The 1st time I bumped into this crap was trying to understand the Theory of Reflexivity in Financial Markets. To understand this, you gotta consume Jack Daniels 2 shots minimum!
This epistemological argument (no even wrong) has been made. But the theory actually has a tremendous online of math in it, and can be used to make verifiable predictions. Correct, current technology cannot make these tests bit so was the case with the 'standard model' for a long time. Right now string theory is a neat mathematical theory but has great philosophical ramifications. I would love to watch this video when I have time
Proponents propose it as a substitute to God but I don't buy it
By definition no scientific theory can substitute God. Science deals with the material (matter and energy) domain in the space time framework. God is independent of these domains. Even the so-called "God Particle" Higgs boson, will only explain the missing link in 'information transfer' and explain the 'Weak' and 'Strong' force information transfer.
I have not gone through the math of String Theory. I do not want to either. My basic level understanding is that unlike most of Quantaum mechanics, this eliminates infact explains, the probabilistic element in Quantum theory.
My first exposure to applied statistical quantum mechanics was in Grad School without an undergrad background. A constant influx of caffiene worked for me, so much so, that after the term ended, I suffered from severe caffiene withdrawl induced stabbing headaches.
I have to bring a religious perspective to this discussion. This video is indeed the best description of the the dimensions I have seen so far. I have had a very tough time trying to describe to people how Allah has the quality to know the past the future and the present and how Time is just creation of Allah almighty nothing more. And how we are bound within our constraint of time perception and not able to comprehend Allah.
Also note the definition of the 7th dimension. Which ties in very well to a philosiphical description of 7 heavens, rather 7 samawat. Many scholoars have translated 'samawat' as dimensions of space and time. The definition from this video of a point in 7th dimension is the collection of all probabilities all outcome possible starting from the big bang. A profound concept if considered to be equivalent to 7 samawat.
