I am not an expert on issues relating to DAM and therefore I never commented on this issue, but Allah has given me two eyes and a little brain which helps me watch and understand things better.
This damn , DAM drama is not a new issue and our politicians particularly Sindhi politicians have used it to make people fool. As I used to work as free lance resource person for some NGOs to organise workshops for them and their funded agencies I had to collect some facts and figures to make my point of view more compelling.
We all know Pakistan’s (present) population when got independence was about 40 million and now it is 200 million. When Pakistan got independence, it was spending all water sources for its 40 million people and India had no reservoirs then. Now Pakistan water sources are same but supply of water is less then what it was in 1947 as India has made many reservoirs at source and not letting that water to go to Pakistan until there is flood situation and Pakistan now spend these depleted sources for its 200 million population. In this situation if people think that they will have same amount of water then they live in fools paradise.
It is interesting to know particularly for those who are against dams that Tarbela Dam got operational in 1987 and still there was no shortage of water in River Indus until late 80s. I still remember our fishermen used to hunt Palla Fish from River Indus and Palla was able to go against the tide to Sukkur bridge until late 80’s. So, where the dam has caused shortage of water, I didn’t understand.
It is interesting to know that those who are crying day and night on dam and scarcity of water don’t mention Sindh’s own fresh water sources i.e. Manchar and keenjhar lake have been poisoned by these same bastards and there is no voice against that biggest crime.
Also those who have started opening their big mouth, forgot our own LBOD and RBOD. Will critics of Dam say something on those disastrous projects and how these projects have played their roll in degradation of our irrigation land and water resources.
I would also request critics of dam to let me know how many times our agriculture and Water management departments have done BHAL SAFAI of canals and river during last 4 decades and how many canals they have made PUKKA to save water. This is one of the big reason of scarcity and wastage of water and no one speak out on this issue but when there is an initiative on DAM then these people come out and start speaking that Dam should not be constructed.
Now in the end here are some links which will give these critics some insight that how many dams our neighbours have constructed. I live in NSW and there are no less then 2300 Dams only in NSW and NSW is probably equal to Pakistan in terms of area.
