Bhai jaan, except for may be germany, holland and australia most other countries like ireland and belgium probably spend a miniscule amount of money compared to what we do.

I think that the bigger problem is that we are stuck in the last century while the hockey has moved into the 21st century at a very high speed.

We think that we should be able to do well but the fact is that for us to do well in hockey field of today will be very difficult.

The europeans or the westerners have transformed hockey from a individual skill sport to a highly strategic sport which requires supreme fitness levels to compete at the highest levels. The fitness and tactics have become the equalizer of different skill levels.

No matter how much money you spend at it until we have people who love hockey, are highly innovative and have good grasp of the modern game and excellent fitness levels we will not be able to compete.

Gone are the days when a lone Shahbaz could cut through defenses or a samiullah or kaleemullah could run down the flanks.

Honestly the Irish team and players by no means have more money and more talent than pakistan yet they beat us. Its food for thought. Hoping that a 67 years old coach can come up with ways to compete with the tactics and fitness levels of the european teams is a fallacy.
