So devastating is Ebola that the whole countries are becoming closed to flights and thus causing cessation of significant portion of their economic activity. I do not see its end unless business leaders ,scientists and administrators come with some accelerated plan to control it . This thread and its links need a close read .
The world health organization is constantly revising its estimate of expected devastation from Ebola virus . Today they expect 20000 to die , last time they revised estimate of time required to control it as six months . without special mercy from Lord I do of see it ending and I see it spreading .
We now have a much more connected and heavily populated Africa , spread is easier and as explained below what to talk of control of Ebola even means to control Ebola are not on ground . Regarding Chinese alone there are more than one million in Africa ,so routes of spread are readymade .
The Ebola virus outbreak is both an international, medical and Muslim issue . The areas in which it is spreading in West Africa has substantial Muslim population. Worst affected include Seira Leone, Liberia and disease is spreading in Nigeria and even in Congo . A case or two probably have reached Saudi Arabia . As these days world is all linked it is quite possible that it may arrive in Pakistan soon ,as we Pakistanis have military and police officers posted under UN in Liberia for instance .
It is so infectious and kills so frequently that areas affected can become hell . For example airlines have stopped flying in these countries , Doctors and nurses dying during patient care is so high high that hospitals have to be closed for lack of staff , the areas had to be curfewed in Liberia as suspected carriers both move about and are not allowed to be segregated by family members and hospitals are seen by public as places of contact for disease . The patient need blood and ICU type handling , body fluids are extremely infectious , the usual cloth type aprons gowns do not provide protection , special masks are hard to get and difficult to wear in hot humid weather . Considerable funds and people are required to treat people . Ordinary tropical diseases like malaria, infections look similar early on as Ebola so all sick people have to be seen with heavy gowns .
Our African brothers are in deep trouble , the task is very dangerous for volunteers for whom special insurance needs to be offered before sending as chance of dying is high . The engineers and plastic firms can do a great job if they design such capsules where afflicted can be handled medically , I have a design in mind as I see no other solution for Ebola or MERS virus unless portable treatment cabins of advanced design are made , they can cost a lot as they will be like a space visitor cabin in flight .
The reason that I have written this second thread on Ebola is that I am expecting it to arrive in Pakistan sooner or later and we have never dealt with such a killer in Pakistan .
Three website links have been given below to understand the problem .
There are further links in the third website which is run by small group of educated Liberian origin senior specialist doctors working in the USA
So serious is the problem that WHO last night withdrew from an area with high health care workers death rate . Till recently only Medicine sans frontier of France and WHO was giving external help . Now CDC is giving help . Experimental drug is proving only slightly effective despite high early hopes . A lot of work has been done on monkeys and animals who have had similar to Ebola virus but drugs tried are few on humans .
Going by speed of world response I do not see this epidemic stop as it needs successful drug to treat patient and massive screening of population by new methods .
The recently reported Congo virus cases in Sindh also gives rise to similar picture as Ebola we are told so some interest in engineering part of response to Ebola , Congo and MERS virus is needed for national self interest . I do not see doctors control this without biomedical and plastic engineers and electro medical engineers help .
I expect WHO to Fail on Ebola issue unless it is helped seriously or augmented by high tech volunteer force and none to me can match the task .
link Deals with WHO report on matter of deaths esp in health care workers .

I feel that technical persons should read about this and suggest some ideas as well.
