A woman in Saudi Arabia has sparked outrage after posting a photo of herself on Twitter without an abaya or hijab, and is now facing calls for her execution.

Some social media users reacted with outrage after the photo was posted under the Twitter handle of Malak Al Shehri, which has since been deleted, the International Business Time reported.

An unnamed student who reposted the image told the website that Ms Al Shehri had announced she was going out to breakfast without either a hijab or abaya. The student said she started receiving death threats after posting proof in response to followers who had asked to see a photo.

what this has to do with islam you D*ck head??? your stupidity/ignorance strikes 24/7...

if the guy who preached islam hadn't been so uptight about hijab, muslims woudnt be demanding that women who are strangers to them wear hijab. coincidentally that is how the first hijab started in islam. a guy who had no relation to a woman told the prophet that that woman should wear a hijab. oh the irony

The only one thing I knew. If you live in a country you abide by the laws, whatever the laws are. OR leave the country of your choice. This is Simple Funda!!
It has nothing to do with Islam. If this lady wants to walk without hijab or Abaya, she is free to go to any other country to do whatever she wants. but while in saudi arabia she should obay the law.

Kindly keep law and extremism apart. They werent suppose to drive fr god knows what reason and now they are thinking to take it back. This is not a law, its just their style of living. Hypocrite muslims we are as if this applies in peshwar or kp we call them backward but if it happens in saudi we say subhan Allah.

...the fact that KSA is considered the epicentre of Islam because of the two holy cities and being the place from where Islam originated. The fact that 99.9% of people there are Muslims and this massive uproar among people is coming from that background.

Now please don't call it some Jewish-o-Nasara conspiracy. Own your crazies.

son, let me make something clear to you. if you think saudia arab is epicenter of islam then well you should know that Saudi Arab was created by UK. it's only the two cities which happen to be in the place occupied by a family which uses religion to enforce their rule. and they twist religion in all the ways to make things work for them like not allowing women to drive...

99% people living in certain place makes them good muslim?? i was right to call you di***k head...

By your logic, the "true" Muslims living in the region of two holy cities are extremely weak because they are letting Saud family twist Islam.

And by further logic, you are extremely weak and hypocrite that you are letting your religion allegedly get twisted by Sauds and you're sitting here in Pakistan, enjoying singing and talking about it on the internet while watching latest veena qandeel malik videos in the other browser tabs.

It's hypocrisy like this in you discriminatory lot which makes na pak-mulhids like me surprised.

Saudi police detain young woman for removing abaya - media

DUBAI, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Saudi police detained a young woman for violating modesty rules after she removed her abaya, the loose-fitting, full-length robes women are required to wear, on a main street in the capital Riyadh, local media reported on Monday.

The conservative Muslim country enforces a strict dress code for women in public, bans them from driving and prohibits the mixing of sexes.

The Arabic-language al-Sharq newspaper reported that the woman was detained after a complaint was filed by the religious police.

"Police officers have detained a girl who had removed her abaya on al-Tahliya street, implementing a challenge she announced on social media several days ago," the newspaper quoted Colonel Fawaz al-Maiman, a Riyadh police spokesman, as saying.

The sabq.org news website said the unnamed woman had posted on Twitter that she would go out in public without her abaya.

Both sabq.org and another news website, alweeam.com.sa, carried a picture of the woman wearing a black jacket over an ankle-length orange and pink dress. Sabq.org concealed the exposed parts of her body.

The post had drawn an angry reaction from some Saudis.

"She has been arrested and we demand utmost punishment, for the state has rules that she did not respect," one Twitter user said. (Reporting by Sami Aboudi; Editing by Janet Lawrence)
