Sahiwal and Okara to get their own varsities

Major development will soon kick off to establish campuses of the universities of Sahiwal and Okara in Punjab, The Express Tribune has learnt.A feasibility study will be conducted for construction work required for both campuses. The projects will cost an accumulated Rs23million. The study will evaluate and analyse the existing land use and facilities for the project. The project will be completed in three months.

The charter of the University of Sahiwal was approved in 2015, while that of the University of Okara was given a nod of approval in 2016.
The University of Sahiwal, formally a sub-campus of the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, was established in early 2015. However, it was decided that the campus would be converted to a public chartered university when the Punjab government passed the University of Sahiwal Act 2015 on June 10, 2015.

The University of Okara was simultaneously envisioned by the provincial government and 280 acres of land at Renala Khurd was approved for the campus in 2015.
Meanwhile, the administrative charge of both universities was temporarily given to the University of Education (UoE) Lahore Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-e-Azam.

According to the survey, a preliminary master plan for the universities will be prepared. The plan will be for the next 10 years. It shows proposed buildings such as academic blocks, administration block, student hostels, library, auditorium, research centre in basic and clinical sciences, staff residences, sports and other facilities, internal roads, pavements, parking area and open spaces for future expansion.
The scheme is part of the Punjab Higher Education Departments Annual Development Programme (ADP) for FY2016-17.

The point raised on this forum many times is lesser priority of PML(N) for human development. No one would hate on you/ your party for making Universities/ Schools or Hospitals. Given there is no gimmickry and their fate does not turn out to Danish public schools. Of all provinces Punjab has most population and is in dire need of varsities.

Govt releases fund for Sialkot’s NUST campus

ISLAMABAD: The federal government released first instalment worth 180 million for the establishment of the National University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) Sialkot resident campus near Sambrial.

While addressing the press conference on Sunday, Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the campus would be established on 150 acres of land at a total estimated cost of Rs 4 billion for providing international standard education to the students besides launching the specially designed advanced technology and engineering courses.

MNA Ch Armughan Subhani, AJK- MLA Ch Muhammad Ishaq, Provincial Minister for Local Bodies Manshaullah Butt, MPAs Ch Muhammad Ikram, Ch Arshad Javaid Warraich, Ch Tariq Akhtar Subhani, Sialkot District Council’s Chairperson Hina Arshad Warraich, Vice Chairman Ch Raza Subhani and Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation Ch Tauheed Akhtar were also present on the occasion.

The minister said a separate campus of the Government College Women University (GCWU) Sialkot and Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College (KMSMC) Sialkot would also be established soon near Sambrial.

Asif informed about several projects included, the construction of the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway at three different sections under the joint supervision of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), the initiation of the work to shift old district courts from the city to Sialkot-Eimanabad Road, and the construction of an international standard park.

Asif said that the shifting of the Sialkot District Jail and District Courts Sialkot to the outskirts of the city would increase the beauty of the city besides helping in lessening traffic load on main roads.

Khawaja Asif added that the PML-N government has been taking measures for the beautification and uplift of Sialkot.

There were already sub-campuses of different universities Like BZU, COMSATS, GCU Faisalabad and VU.
