A totally dumb and idiotic policy. The rest of the world is abandoning coal while noora brothers are gleefully embracing it, oblivious to the consequences and its impact on the respiratory health. Pakistan has just signed the Paris agreement on reduction of green house gases, so how are these morons going to reduce the carbon footprint with such stupid policy? The smog in bigger cities is already so bad that it's hard to breath, but these damn Patwaris are hell bent on pushing the country back into the 18th century.

He came into power by rigging elections....now its even proven

If you people were gifted with vision a little above than blind imrani follower, you could understand that dams from concept to production take 10 to 15 years. Nuclear plants take over 5 years with cost 10 times more than thermal plant.
In thermal plants coal is cheaperst to operate and takes 2 to 3 years to set up. This is the only best option we have in given circumstances. Obviously these could be phased out once we have alternate long term resources.
But i can understand it is not easy for once who dance on "aaye ga imran"

Yes, Nooras tried that conversion thing in Nandipur; from oil to gas and then to nothing. Get over it you Noora TC'er.

absolutely spot on, noora interest in coal based industry is alarming. Question is, expansion of coal industry is feasible for worst polluted environment of Pakistan? recently we saw Lahore effected by worst smoke. Every December, thick fog descends upon Lahore, blocking out the winter sunshine, closing off the motorway after dusk and preventing flights from landing at the international airport at night.

The problem has grown worse over the last five years due to the high levels of pollution and poor air quality in the city, created by increasing vehicular and industrial emissions. Even during the summer months, there is now a permanent haze hanging over the city that is only relieved when it rains and the pollution is washed away for a short while. These coal projects will further worsen the polluted environment resulting in devastating effects on public health. We could have explore alternative energy resources which have positive effect on environment rather than destroying it.

Chinese are building our coal industry and shutting down all its coal based Projects in their country even those which are under construction. seems Pakistan will be its dumping yard with high Profits

Re: PR Coal Hopper Wagons

noora loves for coal will be Disastrous for environment

Sahiwal coal power plant 1320 MW.

Coal power plants are an environmental disaster. In one hour, a1200 MW coal power plant typically emits over 1,200 kilogrammes (kg) of carbondioxide gas, nine kg of nitrous oxide and five kg of sulphur dioxide. All ofthese pollutants fall back to earth in the form of acid rain. Twenty years ofresearch has concluded that most of the anthropogenic (human caused) mercurycontamination in water bodies is due to coal power plant emissions.

Coal emissions and ash are responsible for arsenic and lead permeating into groundwater, seriously damaging the quality of aquifers that supply drinking and irrigation water. These toxic metals and residues eventually enter the food chain, contaminating food crops, livestock and milk. A particularly pernicious emission is PM10, which enters the respiratory systems of humans and animals and causes infectious diseases. A perfunctory environmental impact assessment was carried out and an NoC was issued by the Punjab government.

A 1,200 MW power plant will consume approximately 10 million cubic feet of water per day equivalent to a canal carrying 115 cusecs of water which could have provided a livelihood to a population of 57,500 farmers. Where will the extra water supply in the Lower Bari Doab system come from?

A 1,200 MW power station will burn 600 tonnes of coal per hour, approximately 14,000 tonnes per day and 3.5 million tonnes per year. It will require approximately three train-loads per day, and a turnaround rate (from Karachi to Sahiwal) of five days per train to fulfil this demand. According to Coal India, which has many years of experience, the transportation of coal is the most critical issue in the smooth functioning of coal power plants. Pakistan railways have imported locomotives and wagons worth $500 million to haul this coal.

Nespak had conducted the EIA in March 2014 but none of its findings were made public or shared with the stakeholders. The purpose of the EIA study was to identify the impacts of the power plant on the environment and propose mitigation measures against the possible adverse effects.

Re: PR Coal Hopper Wagons

You want to get into the technical details of Nandi poor with me Sir. Mind it, it is (sort of) my profession.
The fact is that the Nandi Poor boiler was under designed for the superheat cycle required to run the HP side of the turbine. This stupidity took place in your Majesty Musharuf era. PPP Govt realizing this mistake did not pic up project, asking Dogfeng to redesign the boiler. The boiler water wall were already built and only thing that could be done was to oversize the burners, for which it still needed change in the design of water walls. So it was a major change. Chines (being not so friendly) did not refuse but wanted huge cost to be born by PK govt which PPP was not agreeing with. That is why they did not pick up the rest of the plant from the port.
No doubt nooras are stupid enough and were advised that plant can still run with undersized steam output from the boiler. Having acute shortage in the power they found it a best opportunity to show themselves off. They assembled rest of the plant. And they took this opportunity to undermine Zardari Govt, by saying that it was the commission issue due to which they did not pick up the project for so may years.
The plant was assembles in the shortest ever possible time, that is why their was a big show off inauguration. The Engineers in order to take full heat output had to run the burners at full throttle. Engineers had to tweek with the fuel to air ratio at that high capacity. Lots of fine tuning was done in first week. They did not get any help from Dongfeng because those burners were not able to run at that high BTU. The result was that within one week the burners got coking which is the major problem of furnace oil. The plant went down in one week.
As you said the decision was taken to change burners from Oil to Gas. Running burners with max output on gas restarted the plant but cost per unit when sky high. So sir now the plant is in usable condition but is run only on very short periods when there is acute shortage of power. The plans are being made to do the major redesigning of the boiler which was actually PPPs stance. Now per your saying the plant is turned into nothing because it is being kept as a backup. its running cycles are not announced in media because Imrani commentators on media pick it up and make all kind of fuss in misguiding imrani gang.
After this major redesigning on boiler this plant is very much operational Sir. I salute PPP govt on this issue because they did not jump and tried to take the credit, they wanted to solve the goofy f-up that musharuf Govt did by accepting the faulty design. Now please dont call me Jiyala because of speaking the truth as you call me Patwari by speaking other truths.
I had good interactions with you before and i consider you as a reasonable person. Hope my curde explanation on the Nandipoor situation will soften your stance a bit on this issue. It it does not that I cant do much.
