ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court acquitted prime suspect Khalid Chisti of all charges as 6 out of 8 eyewitnesses changed their statements in court, Express Newsreported on Saturday.
Eye-witnesses said they made different statements earlier due to various pressures.
The cleric was accused of adding pages from the Holy Quran to ashes seized from 14-year-old Rimsha Masih to implicate her and make the case stronger.
Three witnesses who had testified against the cleric had later backtracked from their statements saying that the police had forced them to testify on October 10, 2012.
Rimsha was arrested under the blasphemy laws from the outskirts of Islamabad on August 16, 2012 after a mob of angry residents gathered at the Ramna Police Station and accused her of burning pages of the Holy Quran.
The charges against Rimsha led to the exodus of dozens of Christian families from the neighbourhood after cleric Chishti, the imam of a mosque, allegedly issued a decree on his mosques loudspeaker to burn Christians of the Mehrabadi village alive.

we as usual the poor ,media misled mob.. forgot this case also that how the goverment of ppp used their power to twist the story and make happy their westren allies.. created the eyewitnesses against the cleric and expelled rimsha in a helicopter in blink of eye.. the same rimsha who was 14 years insane and later on turned to be of 22 years or so and giving interviews..as I remember.

Dude why are you misleading people. After a medical board examination, she was declared to be 14 years old.

Prosecuting lawyer said she was 21. No one ever said she was 22.

I understand that you want to 'feel' that everything in Pakistan is a 'saazish' and we are the purest, innocent, most civilised and educated in the universe - but my friend why do you have to misrepresent?? You can just feel that way and have that opinion. Stop spreading false information for your noble feel-good desires.

Finally, justice prevails.

It was such a scandal that under international pressure, the PPP govt tried to turn the complainant of this blasphemy case into a culprit. Qari Zubair who was a witness was brutally tortured by police and forced to testify that Qari Khalid had fabricated the case. Using that testimony, case was dropped against Rimsha Masih and she was sent to Canada. Instead a case was registered against Qari Khalid.

But immediately after that, when Qari Zubair was produced before magistrate he protested that his statement was taken by police under torture and Qari Khalid was innocent while Rimsha Masih was indeed guilty of blasphemy. Based on this statement and statements of other witnesses, the case against Qari Khalid was proved a fabrication and he has been finally acquitted.
