Facts of Propagated Story of Corruption of Rs.10 Billion
in Pakistan Railways (Audit Report)
The news regarding corruption of Rs.10 Billion in Pakistan Railways being propagated by Electronic Media as well as Social Media is not based on actual facts. Here is the brief detail of it:
1. Audit Report 2016 is a preliminary observation to which Pakistan Railways has given a detailed reply the same is likely to be settled when discussed with Audit authorities.
2. In fact, 69 DE Locomotives (Railway Engines) were purchased by the previous government from a Chinese company, M/s. Deng Fong which were substandard and became out of order. Unfortunately another order of 75 DE Locomotives was placed on the same company by the previous government.
3. When PML(N) government took over in 2013 and Railway Ministry was entrusted to Khawaja Saad Rafique, this deal was cancelled immediately and advance payment of 15% + Insurance etc amounting to Rs.2.75 Billion was recovered through Exim Bank China. In this way, the Nation and the department was saved from a colossal loss by the present Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique.
4. Instead of appreciating the efforts of Ministry of Railways, some irresponsible faction of media and politicians are playing up the Audit Report against the Government of Pakistan and Pakistan Railways.
5. The other audit objections have similar inherent weaknesses and are not accepted by Ministry of Railways. Pakistan Railways is of the considered opinion that Audit will settle these baseless / frivilous observations after verification of record.
