Islam is the most pragmatic and empirical Deen and forbids not to cause, hurt and pain not only to another human being but also to treat the animals kindly and causing them undue distress. I read Quran and understand Islam, not with the myopic eye of a neem-mullah but with a broadened horizon that impresses and influences not only the adherents but also non-Muslims in the world. We must present Islam that it deserves to be represented, " Killing of a single innocent human being is considered killing of the whole humanity in Islam." Remember that the Haqooq -ul-ibad not only applies to how we treat other human beings but also animals, plants, and every other Allah's creation.
Regarding sedating and discovering better ways and methods of the Qurbani rituals instead of seeing the animals suffering, running away from the butchers' knives with limbs cut off, and going wild in anger and despair. this could be discussed by religious scholars and medical experts. I would like to point here that hundreds of millions of Muslims live in Europe and other western countries and abide by their laws prohibiting public slaughtering of animals on all occasions and even our scholars corroborate and have never defied them.
I am not in any way suggesting as one of the writers criticized me saying that I am proposing that slaughterhouses should be turned into veterinary hospitals but that is untrue and absurd. I am only saying that the Qurbani rituals and rites should be improved to make the true essence of Sunnah-e- Abrahami appeared more agreeable and presentable to the wider world since we live in a global village and hundreds of millions of non-Muslims watch animals being slaughtered unkindly and inhumanely on their Tv screens. It must be done in slaughterhouses allocated by the local authorities and performed finely and hygienically and not crudely or unhealthy but in an environmentally safe way so that various diseases do not spread in towns and cities. " Janwar ko zibak karo lakin ahssen tareqay say," is the command of Allah. Allah is Handsome and loves Beauty in everything we do.
It is not only the issue of inhumanely slaughtering that is totally forbidden in Islam but also of the health hazard of the aftermath of slaughtering the animals in streets, roads, inside the homes, open places and leaving behind the residues and excrements to rot and smell odiously the whole environment, clogging of drains and sewers, causing dangerous hygienic and health hazards to the citizens are the issues that must be addressed and not left to the mollahs alone who are too busy eating meaty rich dishes on the occasion. What is most distressing and disgusting is to see the residuals and excrements of the slaughtered animals not only rooting away for days in public places but also eaten by dogs, cats, and wild animals roaming the streets that is another serious health hazard. This is atrocious.#
I urge that the government must step in urgently over this issue and not ignore it as blasphemous or religiously intimidating or highly controversial but make the occasion pleasing to the eye and maintaining the aesthetic essence and message of Sunnah-e-Abrahami.
