PTI lauds the announcement of Malala Day
The United Nations has announced to observe Malala Day on the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] of November under its supervision across the world in the honour of child activist from Swat, Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban. The outpouring of sympathy for Malala and abhorrence over the cowardly act demonstrate the determination of the Pakistani society not to allow a handful of radicalized elements to dictate their agenda. PTI strongly reaffirms UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moons description of the brave girl as being a global symbol of every girls right to an education. The day would be commemorated in support of the 14 year old and the 32 million girls like her around the globe who are denied their right to school. Education is a fundamental human right. It is a pathway to development, tolerance and global citizenship. PTI supports the aim to establish a safe and productive environment in which girls will flourish and this will only be achieved through global commitments, civil society movements, legislation and individual initiatives. Pakistan must accelerate progress and dedicate resources for girls to claim their rights and realize their full potential.
