PTI asks PM to withdraw Qatari princes letter from SC

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to withdraw the letter of the Qatari prince from the Supreme Court if he stands by his speech on the floor of the National Assembly.Talking to reporters after a meeting of the partys parliamentary group here on Sunday,
PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the prime minister should come to parliament and explain his position over his alleged contradictory statements made in the National Assembly and the Supreme Court about the contents of the Panama Papers about foreign assets purportedly owned by him.Examine: Letter from Qatari prince has no legal weight: lawyers
He said the meeting, presided over by PTI chairman Imran Khan at his Banigala residence, had finalised a strategy for the ongoing sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate. Mr Qureshi, however, said he could not disclose the strategy because he planned to hold consultations with other opposition parties as well to take them into confidence on it.
Qureshi says party finalises strategy for NA, Senate sessions. The PTI leader said that after the statement of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq that the PML-N and the government stood by each and every word of the prime ministers speech in the assembly, the government should withdraw the letter of the Qatari prince from the Supreme Court in its next hearing of the Panamagate case expected to be held in the first week of January.Referring to Mr Sharifs April 22 speech in the National Assembly, the PTI leader said the prime minister had categorically stated that they had purchased the flats in London from the money they got after selling the steel mills in Dubai and Jeddah and there was no mention of Qatar.
However, he alleged, the prime minister later changed his stance in the Supreme Court where his lawyer submitted a letter from the Qatari prince as evidence about the London property, showing that the money had reached London via Qatar.Military courtsMr Qureshi regretted that the law under which military courts had been set up would lapse on Jan 7 because of the presence of the sunset clause in it, but so far the government had not come up with its plan as to what it wanted to do next.
In reply to a question, he said the PTI had a clear stance on the issue, but it would be made public only after knowing the governments position on it.He said he would meet leaders of other opposition parties before start of the National Assembly session on Monday (today) so that they could devise a joint strategy on issues.
