Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Balochistan chapter has declared the current provincial government unconstitutional. The decision was taken during a meeting of the PPP provincial council.
The step follows the Supreme Court’s interim order which stated that the Balochistan government failed in maintaining the law and order situation and protecting the lives and properties of its people, which is the principal constitutional responsibility of any set-up. The apex court had also sought a report from the federal government on how the provincial government was still operating.
During the PPP provincial council meeting, party members and office bearers criticised the Balochistan government, particularly Governor Nawab Zulfikar Ali Magsi, for its incompetency.
Vote of confidence
In the wake of the order which declared that the provincial government lacked authority, Governor Magsi summoned the provincial assembly session for November 13, to win a fresh vote of confidence from the house.
However, Magsi left Quetta for a foreign trip, according to a senior official – although an official spokesperson for the governor told The Express Tribune that he had gone to Karachi and that he was not aware as to how long the governor will be away and whether he was going on a foreign trip.
