PESHAWAR: Politicians from different political parties made every effort to do point scoring and criticise each other on the occasion of the twin suicide bombings at the All Saints Church in the city here Sunday in which 78 people were killed.
ANPs Mian Iftikhar Hussain bitterly criticised the PTI-led provincial government for failing to protect the Christians and their place of worship and lacking commitment to face up to the terrorists. Other ANP leaders too came down hard on the PTI and its allied ruling parties.
The sources said that minority wing members of the ANP were in the forefront of the protests against the provincial government. PPP lawmaker Nighat Orakzai also strongly criticised the government. She emotionally declared to speak for the minorities and at one stage reportedly threw down her cell-phone and lay down on the road as part of the protest against the government.
Health Minister Shaukat Yousafzai alleged that the ANP leaders tried to provoke the Christians and others by exploiting the tragedy at the church.Defending his governments performance and sincerity, the minister said PTI volunteers donated 400 bottles of blood at the LRH to set a record and make the blood available to the injured persons. He said the doctors too performed under so much pressure and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan during his visit to the LRH was full of praise for them and said they would be considered for a civil award.
