KPK govt’s bold move as it bans police torture in province

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has made significant move for prisoners’ rights on Thursday by banning police torture on captives.
The KPK government decided to put ban over police torture on directives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, over prisoners arrested in different cases.
The provincial authorities blocked all pathways lead towards torture on prisoners as now police officials are restricted to agony the captives during judicial and physical remands.
Prisoners in cases of stealing, robbery, murder, kidnapping and possession of illegal weapons won’t be tortured while strict will be taken against the police officials who found guilty, according to new directives.
The PTI chief Imran Khan directed the Chief Minister KPK, Pervez Khattak, to form special committee for the implementation on the decision.
