KPK govt’s bold move as it bans police torture in province





PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has made significant move for prisoners’ rights on Thursday by banning police torture on captives.


The KPK government decided to put ban over police torture on directives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, over prisoners arrested in different cases.


The provincial authorities blocked all pathways lead towards torture on prisoners as now police officials are restricted to agony the captives during judicial and physical remands.


Prisoners in cases of stealing, robbery, murder, kidnapping and possession of illegal weapons won’t be tortured while strict will be taken against the police officials who found guilty, according to new directives.


The PTI chief Imran Khan directed the Chief Minister KPK, Pervez Khattak, to form special committee for the implementation on the decision.

i think in Europe there is no physical torture too much but mentally torture.....

The Police have innovative equipment to investigate with Criminals without torture why can`t we adopt that trick..

in Europe many prisoner are being trained with some skillful Technical work and when prisoners bail out from the jail they have some skill to contribute in society rather then Criminal Activities

KPK should also provide international level training to their police force to deal with all kind of cases. police also need psychological training too.

Most of the prosecution in Pakistan are based on self confession of the criminals and accomplices through torture, thats thrown out of the door when suspect is in court and says its all done under pressure and torture he is innocent. Our kind judges always give benefit of the doubt to criminal and penalise Police for no evidence and they dont even listen what a Policeman witness statement says. In the west, if no evidence but only suspect word against Policeman word, Court value the Policeman statement not the criminal.

With no torture, Police will have to solve the cases by building evidence and other witness around the incident and when confronted by reality by police, most suspects will agree to crime for less harsher sentences. in other words police has to solve the cases professionally not just by torture!

Insaan ko Insaan Samjha jae tu hewaan bhi Insaan ban sakta hai.. Insaan ko jail mai agar technical skill dy di jain tu wo society mai apna kirdar Aada kar sakta hai.. lakin Bad Qismaati ye hai k hamari prisoner bahar Aakar or bhi ziada khatarnaak juraam karta hai kiyo k Police ka attitude or jail ka environment hi aisa hota k Insaan bhi Hewaan ban jae...

This is good move, we need to learn as the whole world have learnt about good intelligence reports and motorization techniques to tackle crimes :)

If they have done a crime then let the court's give them punishment, no need to torture them. As long as the justice system is strong and the culprits get punished that should do the job. There are other methods in order for us too get information.
