PM Gilani directs release of 1.5 bn to Wapda

Islamabad: Pakistans Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Finance to urgently release Rs. 1.5 billion to WAPDA to settle the remaining claims of IPPs.He was presiding over a meeting of Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) here to review progress on the private power projects and their future portfolio to increase power generation to overcome electricity shortage in the country.The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to make arrangements for provision of natural gas to power plants, that were currently operational.

he is trying to do the job of 5 years in 5 months now...... it reminds me of our summer vacations home work....... which we always tried to complete in the last one week........ and never accomplished the task........

If you look at the news beginning of May 2012, Pak Gov owed these guys over 30 billion,and some say as much as 70 billion. Has that all been paid off now ? I think not

The government owes Rs69 billion, about Rs44 billion to oil-based plants and Rs25 billion to gas/oil based plants, to these IPPs for the electricity it has purchased from them since Oct last.
