The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is all set to kick off its fresh political showdown at Swat's Grassy Ground today, with the arrangements for the gathering almost finalised.
According to reports, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif along with the party's senior leadership had reached Swat for the jalsa.
As part of the even't spreparations, two dais have been set up for the alliance's leaders to address supporters, whereas some 10,000 chairs have been lined up at the venue for the participants.
Measures have been taken to ensure foolproof security, with some 1,600 police personnel deployed for the purpose.
Moreover, 3,000 volunteers of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) will be providing security on the occasion.
Shehbaz and PML-N's provincial chief Amir Muqam will be leading the central rally to the venue through the Swat Interchange.
On the other hand, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will lead his supporters to the rally through the Katlang route.
Shehbaz Sharif, Fazlur Rehman, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Amir Muqam, Aftab Sherpao, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party's Mahmood Khan Achakzai among other leaders will address the participants.
Shehbaz Sharif has reached the venue of the rally where he was received by Amiq Muqam, according to the PML-N's official Twitter page.
Strong winds, coupled with rain, have been blowing at the place where the gathering is taking place.
On June 20, the PDM chief announced to hold rallies against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government.
On the Swat rally, he said, “There we will show how this government was imposed on the country and why these people can’t represent the Pakhtuns."
He had also announced a rally in Karachi on July 29 to carry forward the agenda of dislodging the PTI government.
Fazl, on the occasion, said that the alliance could not be disintegrated by the exit of a few parties and it had not changed its stance. The movement against the government will continue with popular support, he added.
According to the PDM chief, “There is no justification for government to stay in power. We will continue our struggle to put the country back on the track of the Constitution.”
