Secondly, the stock market demutualization was a process that started during Musharraf era. Glad to see it has materialized. But Im appalled at the way they have thrown away control of the stock exchange, and practically handed it to China. The price is nothing to boast about, and more importantly, despite having a minority on the board of directors, chinese shareholders will have the authority to appoint the CEO, and essentially steer the exchange. Sort of takes away the true essence of demutualization.

Wow.. what a fanciful game of figures. If you analyse these figures in the total volume of increase, then a 100% of Pakistan's index is not equivalent to the 2% of Chinese trade, or 50% of Indian trade. So, a 29% increase is not a substantial increase to make news. But glad that they are these days looking for anything to make it look big!

Musharraf is a lost cause. I never said he was all that. I meant that the market going up doesnt mean anythign if it is not sustained.
In 2004, the KSE index was at almost 6000, and went up to 16000 in less than a year(increase of more than 150%). That is when the de-mutualization process was started. Then it dropped to 4000 in less than 6 months. Meaningless movement, both upward and downward. It was mainly because the index of the exchange is lopsided, and not representative of the market at large.

The exact same thing is happening right now. Market went from 21000 3 years ago, to 50000 points, again an increase of 150%, and will go even higher, thanks to chinese intervention. But again, its highly speculative. Index weightage is not distributed evenly, and now the exchange is being controlled by an minority stakeholder with political implications, and that is as dangerous as it gets. There is a reason why investors running an exchange with a $3.5 trillion market cap have bought a stake worth $85 million in an exchange with a market cap of less than $90 billion, and no, its not to make money!

One simple thing PMLN followers never seem to get is that over the past 3 years, better than 90% 'investment' in Pakistan has been from one source only...and that source comes with lots of strings attached.
