'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' was Cleared
Pakistan's central censor board clears Bajrangi Bhaijaan but with several cuts.....
But reports emerging from the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) say otherwise. Mobashir Hasan, chairman of the CBFC, told The Express Tribune, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been approved for Eid release by the CBFC but with several cuts [to the film]. He said the panel that recommended these changes comprises members of natural security agencies, film critics and members of the civil society, who made the decision after a thorough discussion.
Hasan revealed that since the CBFC is a regulatory body, determining the time of release of a film doesnt fall within its jurisdiction, but that it has approved Bajrangi Bhaijaan for Eid. In special cases, where a film has to be delayed or restricted, we receive directives from the information ministry, and we havent received any such instructions so far, he shared.
Following the imposition of the 18th Amendment and subsequent decentralisation, the CBFC doesnt hold the power to censor the film across Pakistan. All the cinemas in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and cantonments around the country come within the CBFCs ambit. Apart from that, since Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is yet to form their own censor board, it also receives directives from the central board. Sources revealed that security agencies have asked regional censor boards to play a uniform cut of Bajrangi Bhaijaan across the country.

'Wazir' has been Cleared
KARACHI: Vidhu Vinod Chopras anticipated venture Wazir has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is set to be released in the country on Friday (today).
Talking to The Express Tribune, CBFC Chairman Mubashir Hasan said, Wazir was submitted to us a few days back and was screened for certification Wednesday evening. After careful consideration, it has been certified for public viewing with a few cuts. Not elaborating on the nature of the excision, Hasan said the movies runtime and plot will not be affected.
On the other hand, film watchdogs in Sindh and Punjab are yet to decide upon the fate of the movie. Earlier, the Punjab Board of Film Certification had rejected the film for screening but a full board review was scheduled for Thursday night, where a final decision was expected to be taken. No progress was made till the filing of this report.
While advance booking for the films premiere is already under way at cinemas in Karachi, Sindh Board of Film Certification (SBFC) has yet to give it a go-ahead. We have viewed the film and are still discussing the possible excisions in it, said SBFC Chairman Fakhr-e-Alam.

'Maalik' is Banned
KARACHI / LAHORE: Three weeks after the Ashir Azeem directorial Maalik premiered at theatres across Pakistan, the federal information ministry has slapped a ban on the film.
According to a notification issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, and National Heritage declared the film uncertified according to Section 9 of the Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979.
The information ministry reserves the right to ban any film at any time. Maalik has been banned because it shows a former chief minister as a man of corruption and opulence, a ministry official, requesting anonymity, told The Express Tribune.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Azeem said he was informed about the ban by his distributor. Even I dont know why the film has been banned, he said.
Maalik distributor Mirza Saad Baig said this is the first time a film has been directly banned by the government.
Previously movies were banned by censor boards only. This is a very tricky situation. It is up to the producers to decide what to do next, he said.
When asked about the reason behind the governments decision, he added, We have not been given any details as of yet.
A Central Board of Film Certification official said the ban partially owes to a plethora of public complaints regarding the portrayal of different ethnicities in general and the countrys politicians, in particular.

Ironically, at the same time the infamous "Ghar me Ghus ke Marenge" bollywood director Kabir Khan is allowed to visit Pakistan.
The 'Phantom' director, who arrived at Karachi airport to leave for Lahore, was surrounded by protesters who not only shouted anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans but also questioned Kabir Khan on why he did not make similar movies about the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) activities in Pakistan.
"You people send Jhadav and kill hundreds here, why don't you make a movie about it," a protester asked the Phantom director.
Another shoe-wielding protester chased Khan to the departure lounge warning the director about "Indian conspiracies against Pakistan army".
Now we have some enlightened lady Aliza Qaisar giving her critic view on the film.
