Pakistanis respond to Imran Khan's 'absurd' prayer for US visa ban

While thousands of people rallied in US cities and at airports to express outrage over President Donald Trumps executive order barring entry to citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries, a statement from PTI chief Imran Khan welcoming the ban has left Pakistanis in a state of shock.


Addressing his supporters on Sunday, PTI chairman Imran Khan said he prays that Trump also slaps visa ban on Pakistanis. I pray that Trump stops giving us [Pakistanis] visas because then we will try to fix our own country, he said.

His statement gave rise to strong reactions from Pakistanis across the world.


Some said if Pakistanis were to be banned from the US, the PTI chief should be banned from travelling to the United Kingdom.

While some Twitter users were confused about Imrans statement, some felt the party chief was suffering from a drug overdose.

Speaking to APP, an attorney of Pakistani descent Fitzerald Lewis said, How can someone who called himself a national leader make such an irresponsible statement? While making such a statement, he clearly missed the underline assumption of this whole affair.


Further, Dr Asadullah Mir, a Pakistani American educationist stated that Imrans statement meant Pakistan should be termed a terrorist state by the US. Putting in simple words, what Khan is praying for is that may Trump designate Pakistan as a terrorist state, APP quoted Mir as saying.


US hints at extending visa ban to Pakistan


A day after Trump ordered no-visa policy for seven Muslim states, a White House official hinted that the ban could be extended to other countries, including Pakistan.


In response to a question during his interview to CBS News, White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said: You can point to other countries that have similar problems like Pakistan and others perhaps we need to take it further.

ISLAMABAD: One of the founding members of the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has alleged that the party has been receiving funds from Jewish and Indian lobbies for furthering their agendas.
The allegation was levelled during a television programme by PTIs founding member Akbar S Babar, who has submitted what he calls documentary evidence with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to a report of the Jewish Funding Directory, foreigners, including American Barry C. Schneps and US-born Indian Indur Dosanjh, had been funding the PTI for lobbying in their favour and interests.Babar, responding to the report, said an audit in 2011 had revealed illegal funding in the party but its report was not made public. He claimed he had asked the PTI chairman to audit the funds received from foreigners but he had refused to do so.

Babar filed a case against the party on November 14, 2014, pointing out the incoming funds.
During the hearing of his petition in the ECP, the PTI lawyer raised objections that the commission did not have the jurisdiction to hear the case. The ECP, however, rejected his argument. In May, the party changed its lawyer for the second time and nominated Anwar Mansoor Khan to pursue the case.
Babar alleged the PTIs audit report neither mentions the said case
nor contains information about foreign funding.
To a question, he said the petition against the PTI and its chief would be decided on October 8. I hope the judges will give a verdict on merit, he added.

PTI leader Ali Muhammad agreed that the issue needs to be investigated. He said the investigation should cover all political parties, whose leaders rule Pakistan but own palaces in Dubai and England. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Danyal Aziz said it was the ECPs responsibility to keep an eye on foreign funding to all parties and to stop and seize such funds.

Why don't you ask that from Dr Shahid Masood who to this day claims an audio tape of that exists and Najam sethi even sued him for that, but never followed it up in court or Agha Murtaza Poya or Brig Samson who were the first to mention it in public. It wasn't something IK invented. And if was to go all Patwari, it was just "josh-e-khitabat" like 3 months mein load shedding khatam na kerdoun to mera naam shebaz sharif nahi or it was just a "siyasi bayan" like NS "huzoor yeh hai woh zaraie aur dastavezat jin se london ke flats khareede gaye" on the floor of the national assembly.
