ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 8 -- Pakistan's military Saturday announced the successful test-firing of two ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The missiles were the Shaheen-1, designed to hit targets 400 miles away, and the Ghazvani, which has a 180 mile range, Dawn reported.

CNN said Pakistan could have anywhere from 60 to 100 nuclear weapons. Dawn said Pakistan's arsenal includes short, medium and long range missiles.

Pakistan has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which is mandatory to receive supplies from the 45-member international Nuclear Supplier Group, Dawn said.

Pakistan's arsenal includes short-range, medium and long-range missiles named after Muslim conquerors.

South Asian rivals India and Pakistan which have fought three wars, two of them over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir have routinely carried out missile tests since both demonstrated nuclear weapons capability in 1998.
