Pakistan, Iran agree to cooperate in countering Daesh threat
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation in politics, trade, economy, and security at the ninth round of political consultations between the two countries in Tehran, the Foreign Office said on Saturday.
Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry led the Pakistani delegation while the Iranian side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Ebrahim Rahimpour.
According to a Foreign Office statement, the two sides also reviewed the regional situation as well as opportunities offered by enhanced connectivity for transit trade.
It was agreed that close cooperation is needed in countering extremism and terrorism, especially the threat posed by organizations such as Daesh.
The Foreign Secretary apprised the Iranian officials of the latest situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
He also called on Foreign Minister Javad Zarif during the visit, said the statement.
