Pak-Afghan border closure turning into humanitarian crisis: Imran

LAHORE: During a meeting with Afghan Ambassador Omar Zakhilwal on Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan sympathised with the people stuck on either side of the recently-closed border, an English newspaper reported. In a tweet following the meeting, Kaptaan said, "Closure of Pak-Afghan border is building into a humanitarian crisis. The two governments need to cooperate effectively on cross-border terrorism."

Both leaders also exchanged views on Pakistan-Afghan ties and were in agreement that negotiations between the two countries should resume at the earliest. The Afghan envoy highlighted the challenges faced by the Afghan people stuck on the Pakistani side of the border, to which the PTI chief said that urgent steps must be taken to help them.

The PTI chief also emphasised that talks between the two countries must be expedited to allow cross-border movement of trucks carrying goods. In another tweet, the skipper reiterated, "Those with valid travel documents and perishable goods should be allowed to cross border to mitigate the suffering of ordinary people on both sides."

The hour-long-meeting was held at the PTI supremo's residence in Bani Gala, Islamabad. The border was closed in the wake of a suicide attack on Lal Shahbaz Qalandar's shrine in Sehwan. All traffic between the two countries has remained suspended since then, creating logistical difficulties for landlocked Afghanistan, which conducts most of its external trade through Pakistan.

A large number of Afghan nationals have also been stranded in Pakistan by the decision. Pakistan has frequently used border closure to express its annoyance with Afghanistan on different issues. This time, the border was closed to press Kabul to take action against terrorists holed up in Afghanistan.

This indeed is becoming a crisis, that must be addressed as soon as possible. Unfortunate Pak Afghan border is turning into Israel Ghaza border. One incident makes the life of thousands miserable.
There is no other way than Pakistan to clean the filth which is causing trouble in Afghanistan and Afghans to clean Pakistani filth who took refuge over there.

therein not lies the problem of Afghanistan is cooperation between NDS and RAW against Pakistan, Pakistan Already tolerated enough by terrorist activity across the afghan border. afghanistan always blame on pakistan but dont take action against terrorist inside Afghanistan so the question is what NDS,RAW and NATO are doing? until they dont eradicate the terrorist wings,camps, dens inside afghanistan till then they dont deserve to claim any blame against Pakistan. why always Afghanistan create the hurdle regarding durand line?

there is nothing pakistan can do, and should not do until Afghanistan don't take action against indian proxy war in Pakistan especially in Baluchistan, afghanistan have to work with Pakistan agencies to get rid of both side issues, otherwise we don't want any proxy war in pakistan, spreading by afghan soils back by RAW. and for this we will take any action that will be suitable for our nation. enough is enough

I support Imran Khan, I do agree with Imran Khan's stance, this border blockade is creating problem for many, but i support this border blockade, i want Afghans to push their Govt and terrorists on their soul and should make their country peaceful for Pakistan only then Pak should open the border

Afghani issues have become Pakistani issues and I credit the army for blocking the border till we can solve this issue
I hope we get some real solution though from this border block and can streamline the movement of Afghanis into Pakistan

I was, but anymore PTI supporter, but I am standing with Kaptaan on this issue. As I said earlier, it is no solution to make this border like Israel and Ghaza border, because we will be Israel in that case. We have already done too much bad with Afghans by fighting Har@@m American war on Afghan land and trapping Afghans in by calling it Jihaad

have u ever been to any of the border crossings??? if terrorists can come through that border, than security agencies should kill themselves...the official border crossings are highly guarded...with body and vehicle scanners.. there is no way in hell a terrorist can come through that border... terrorists come through the mountains on foot..

this is only punjabi establishment ego.. it is affecting the people on both sides.. and all it is doing is creating more hatred... why are we pushing afghanistan further to go to india?? how will we handle enemies on every border???

this hatred will not only be in afghans but will transfer to pashtuns too.. already pashtuns are targeted in punjab by punjabi security officials.. there is a strong anti punjabi sentiment growing in KPK and FATA.. balochs and sindhis already hate punjab...so maybe its time to think rationally and realise the mistakes... or else there would be disaster...
