Over 1 million tourists visited Pakistan in 2012

Islamabad: As many as 1,161,245 tourists from inside and outside the country visited Pakistan’s various areas during 2012. ARY News has learnt.

According to official details from the Pakistan Tourism Development Authority (PTDC) around 906,818 tourists visited during 2010 while 966,277 tourists visited Pakistan’s various areas during 2011.

Moreover, for some of the popular destinations, transport facility was made available to the tourists on commercial basis by tour operators.

According to 18th amendment, The Ministry of Tourism has been devolved to provincial governments and the assets of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) are being handed over to provincial governments.

If KPK government can just provide a few facilities and infrastructure and can improve overall law and order situation, I can bet that KPK can generate enough money from tourism alone to feed its population during the year.

Facilities include:

1) Law and order improvement aided by a well organized, trained and polite police.

2) Construction of good and clean hotels in various tourist spots. Cleanliness of the hotels must be given the top priority in this regard.

3). Construction of roads in various parts of the province.

4).Ban and fine on the spot on spoiling the atmosphere by the tourists.


5). Ban on deforestation and plating more and more tress to save the wild life.

6). Finally to create water parks & construction if cable cars along different sites on various small and medium sized rivers and mountains . That would be a treat to watch and experience.

7). Apply 10% tax on the hotels for every room, every night. There is no concept of tax generation by the hotel owners who usually earn handsomly in just 5-6 months of the season but dont pay a penny to the government. Similarly, Toll Plazaa must be established by the government itself to take a small amount of tax (just like motorway) while travelling there. With transparency, this can generate enough funds to pump money in tourism related projects and construction of more roads
