One of the first things club cricketers are taught is the importance of grounding your bat.
All-rounder Ben Stokes must have missed this lesson, however, as during the Second Ashes Test at Lords with England desperately attempting to draw the match he decided not to ground his piece of willow while taking a sharp single to Mitchell Johnson.
The 24-year-old paid a heavy price for this rookie error as Johnson demolished his stumps while his bat was over the crease line, but crucially in the air, meaning he was out.
