Batting legend Brian Lara, in an Instagram post on Sunday, heaped praise on Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali for leading from the front with a brilliant unbeaten 141-run knock in the ongoing third Test against England at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton.

The legendary cricketer termed Pakistan captain’s inning as ‘one of the best-ever captain's knocks in modern cricket’.

"Captain Azhar Ali batting to save his country a Test match with no chance of winning [and to play] pretty much dull cricket if he was to achieve it. But quite the opposite I was watching one of the best Test hundreds and rearguard action I have ever seen," wrote Lara.

Azhar, who'd managed just 38 runs in three previous innings this series, shared a stand of 138 with wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan (53).

"Two great partnerships with Fawad Alam and Mohammed Rizwan but Azhar Ali played one of the best captain’s knock in modern cricket. I know Trinbago Knight Riders won their CPL match but my remote remained untouched. Well played Azhar Ali. True captain’s knock," he added.

During his innings, Azhar became just the fifth Pakistan batsman after Younis Khan, Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf to have scored 6,000 Test runs.

Pak still trailed by 300plus runs after follow-on was enforced. Thats more than a competitive target for a team like pak.
and the test had its glimpses of entertainment. Crawleys inning, azhars inning were outstanding. Besides there could be a fast decision for the test if tomorrows play is nt hindered by weather. If no rain tomorrow and pak goes on to defend the test that would make it even more entertaining

AP sahi kah rahay hain . Magar actually asa hota nahi hai. Har ball ka us kai merit pay khailna parta hai with field and swing plus seam in mind. Bohat sari cheezain hoti hain . Is liyay asa lagta hai magar asa hota nahi hai.

i think he is a good batsmen but away from short form of cricket make him an ordinary player he need more cricket

Azhar is following the footsteps of Hafeez & Malik. As soon as selectors start thinking of removing him because of his failures he scores a 50/100 and stays in the team :)

Azhar saved many matches before this one. Our people only like Babar azam who didnt play single inning in test matches to save a Test. Azhar made 17 Hundreds in 81 matches where Root made 17 in 97 Matches. He was out of form in last yr but he is good enough player to stay in team.

azhar is more compact then other pakistani batsman only out of form cus he decided to stay away from short form of cricket he need to play county in summer
