Islamabad: Pakistan heavily depends on oil imports to meet its energy needs, spending huge money to purchase petroleum products from the international markets.

Ironically, the government and bureaucracy remain reluctant to exploit oil and gas reserves found accidentally, during digging of wells for water, in different parts of the country.
A TV report on Thursday highlighted the issue of government’s apathy in this regard.

According to the report, a gas reserve was found in Jigyot, a town in suburb of Islamabad and only 15 kilometer from the Parliament House, when labourers were busy in digging earth in connection with a construction of a house.

The report said gas was found at the depth of 126 feet, adding that a oil reserve was also found in the same village a few years ago but the authorities remained unmoved despite being informed of the fact.

It is common perception in Pakistan that interest of corrupt politicians are linked with the oil companies those are importing petroleum products. The Parliament immediately swings in action when its members are suspended for having dual nationality and it goes for legislation and extensive debate is seen taking place. But the parliament, the Supreme body of Pakistan, keeps mum when there is any issue of people’s welfare.

All composites (dead animals and kora kirkit) underground or undersea can produce small amount of Metane gas which remain trapped in cold icy water or cold icy ground for centuries. Warming can melt it into gas to escape to surface. It is a normal phenominon due to global warming. It does not indicate any significant gas or oil reserves underneath the superficial bubblings. So please calm down.
