New Vancouver book club invites Sarah Palin and Pervez Musharraf to town
By Charlie Smith, August 31, 2010

Sarah Palin will be going rogue at the Vancouver Club on October 13.
Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin will speak at the Vancouver Club on October 13.
Palin, author of Going Rogue, is one of six writers invited to Vancouver by the Bon Mot Book Club.
Palin's speaking fee is $75,000, according to one of the founders of the club, Leah Costello. She told the Georgia Straight by phone that Palin's fee would have exceeded $100,000 had she booked the event more recently.
Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf is another one of the speakers. He will be in Vancouver on January 19.
The series kicks off on September 20 with Michael Lewis, author of The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.
Also part of the series is Dambisa Moyo, a former World Bank and Goldman Sachs economist who has opposed providing foreign aid to Africa.
Other speakers include New Yorker writer Dr. Atul Gwande and author Liz Murray, who went from being homeless to attending Harvard University.
Costello said that the speaking fees of Gwande and Musharraf are each in the $100,000 range.
There are only 18 tables in the room for these events. Individual tickets cost $500. For $8,000, patrons can purchase six tickets plus six VIP passes, which will enable them to attend receptions to meet the speakers.
