New boundaries: Jirga sets April 2014 deadline for Hazara province

ABBOTABAD: Activists demanding a Hazara province have given the government a deadline for April 12, 2014 to create the new province, following which they will launch large-scale protests.

The decision was made at a jirga of pro-Hazara groups and political parties held on Monday. Hazara Awami Itehad convened the jirga, which was attended by representatives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Suba Hazara Tehreek and Hazara Qaumi Mahaz.

The participants discussed the emerging political situation after a resolution on a separate Hazara province was tabled in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly by Qaumi Watan Party and PTI MPAs from Hazara. The speakers appreciated the resolution and said it is a step towards achieving the common objective of the people of Hazara.

The Awami National Partys (ANP) leadership was severely criticised for opposing a separate province. The ANP claims carving out another province is a conspiracy to divide K-P along ethnic lines. What the ANP did in the past by renaming NWFP as K-P isolated the people of Hazara, who have a separate identity, said former National Assembly deputy speaker Sardar Muhammad Yaqub.
The speakers said the demand for a separate province is the constitutional right of the people of Hazara.

The speakers also asked political parties who have supported the cause of a Hazara province during and before the general elections and have representation in the parliament to honour their word and get the resolution passed from all three tiers of parliament. The speakers asked the ruling parties to ensure the creation of Hazara province by April 2014 otherwise they would suspend construction work on all the power projects that are underway in the area.

Besides Yaqub, JUI-Fs former MPAs Mufti Kifayat Ullah, Naseer Khan Jadoon, Pir Kamal Shah, Syed Riaz Shah, Ahmed Nawaz Jadoon, Advocate Mushtaq Khan Swati, Khanzada Zafar Ali Khan, Prince Fazal-e-Haq and Maj (retd) Abdul Hameed Qureshi were among those in attendance.

Whoever has proposed the Hazara province bill in the assembly , has only served to show flame to coal. What was the need to initiate this debate at this critical juncture of the time when at one hand the government institutions are going through an overhaul and at the other hand the monsters of terrorism and inflation are being deal with?

inflation is controlled by better taxation not by more borrowing, similarly terrorism will be controlled by eradicating social disparity, on both accounts PMLN has not done nothing. Both inflation and terrorism will gain momentum if they don't legislate for better system

Where does PML-N come in this debate? Thanks for your suggestions but they have nothing to do with the issue at hands. I hope you remember the riots that took place last time when the debate of Hazara province was surfaced. There were mass rallies in Mansehra and some 20 people were killed. MQM also capitalized on the situation and tried to provoke Pashtun-Hazara conflict in Karachi along with polemical nuances of their own province. If it happens again then PTI's provincial government shall be at the receiving end.The timing of this bill and debate is extremly inappropriate. I hope someone middles in and convinces the KPK assembly members to leave this issue on some other sunny day.

Well for the issue at hand KPK if pass the resolution won't make a difference, it has to go through NA where PMLn has a majority if u don't like it kill it in NA and that would be end of it. The issue was creating a province where did inflation and terrorism came in all this??

This is very importent it should be made as soon as possible

DistrictPopulation
Abbottabad880666
Battagram307278
Haripur692228
Kohistan472570
Mansehra1152839
Total3,505,581

Comparing the population in above districts, there are more people in the Sheikhupura district than proposed Hazara province

It's more important to administratively divide Punjab in to 3-4 provinces than creating Hazara Province.

It has to be done in Phases.

Phase 1 - Administratively divide Punjab into smaller provinces.

Phase 2 - Hazara & Potahar Province. It make more sense to combine Hazara Potahar as one province. If not then, NWFP should be split into 2, north should be called Abaseen and South should be KP with merger with tribla area. (South can also be reffered to Khorasan Province since historically all the KP was part of Greater Khorasan)

Phase 3 - Administratively divide Sindh by creating 3 smaller provinces, Karachi, Hydrabad and Sukkur as the capital of new provinces.

Phase 4 - Merge Tribla area into NWPF and divide it into 2 smaller provinces.

Phase 5 - Administratively divide Balochistan into 3 smaller provinces, Bolan, Khuzdar, Makran and if needed create a smaller Dera Baloch province for Bugti and Marri tribes.

All of these can be done in different order.
