LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said here on Wednesday night that there was no US apology on the killing of Pakistani soldiers and he would join the protest against the reopening of Nato supplies.

Media reports said Sharif told reporters on arrival at the Heathrow Airport that the PPP government was taking the country towards chaos and anarchy. “The US has not apologised formally and our party was not consulted for reopening of the Nato supplies,” he said.

Agencies add: As the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) announced a long march from Lahore to Islamabad from July 8 to protest the reopening of Nato supply routes, the local Taliban threatened to attack the supply trucks and kill their drivers if they tried to resume supplies to Afghanistan-based foreign troops.

Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) Maulana Samiul Haq announced the decision of the DPC at a press conference here. He said they would hold an all-party meeting to decide on the finer details of the march on July 7 while the DPC would also observe July 6 as a black day.

Calling upon all religious and political parties to join their march, the JUI-S chief said a committee was being formed within the DPC to contact leaders of opposition parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

To a question, the JUI-S chief said the resumption of supply line was un-Islamic since the materials being transported were being used to kill Muslims. the sentiments of the Pakistani public and parliamentary recommendations. He called upon the government to resign immediately for this unacceptable act.

Prominent among those present on the occasion were Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Hafiz Rehman Makki, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Lt Gen (R) Hameed Gul.Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan also strongly condemned the restoration of Nato supplies and said the rulers have put a seal on the “document of their slavery”. “The nation should unite against this anti-Pakistan decision and close all supply routes,” he added.

The Jamaat chief said the rulers had served the US interest at the cost of the vital national interest and the decision would prove to be their “death warrant.” He said the “so-called” apology by the US secretary of state is a “play of words” and it did not mention the drone attacks. He said the rulers in Islamabad are so mindful of the US interests that they also withdrew their demand for a transit fee of $5,000. “God alone knows what transpired behind the door,” he remarked.

Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rahman said only parliament has the authority to resume the blocked Nato supplies, as it was its decision to block the routes. He said that neither the president nor the prime minister have sole authority on the issue.

Former chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen (R) Hamid Gul termed the resumption of supplies as a conspiracy, saying the United States wants to establish bases along the transit route to impose India on Pakistan. He said the resumption of the Nato supplies would result in the Indian supremacy in the region.

The Sunni Ittehad Council said in a statement that the Nato supply routes should remain shut and that any move in the parliament that renders the ISI ineffective would strongly be opposed. It said the United Nations should be approached over the issue of drone strikes.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani Taliban threatened late Tuesday to attack Nato supply trucks and kill drivers if they tried to resume supplies to troops in Afghanistan, a spokesman said.Ehsanullah Ehsan told a foreign news agency: “The Taliban will not allow any truck to pass and will attack it. We will not only attack the supply truck but will also kill the drivers [of Nato supply trucks.”
