Chalo agar yeh maan bhi le k os ne aesa Pakistan ki balai k liye kiya, magar woh jhoot kyu bolta ja raha hai k osay Kargil kay baray may ilam nai tah? He could say that yes he knew about kargil and he feared that he wouldn't be able to stop the military from executing this war, so he went to US, But apparently it seems that the US already knew the developments, So they summoned NS and taunted and pressurized him to withdraw the forces. While all this time NS acted in front of US as if he didn't know of the operation.

Without agreeing to bringing Musharraf back, I will agree with the fact that it was a political defeat on the part of NS BUT my question is this

What made it so important for NS to fly to US in such a hurry to talk to Clinton?
I would also like to know what was Musharraf's reaction to this defeat as he chose to remain the COAS even after the withdrawal?

By all accounts Zia was not very bright. This and the fact that he seemed harmless is what got him to be the COAS.

Militaries all over the world recruit not so bright people as officers. After all not everyone is full of patriotism and desire to lay their lives for the nation. Most are there since they couldn't get into anything else. Being extremely bright is not one of the main qualities the military looks for (except for may be air force since they have to be smart enough to fly a multi-million dollar machine).

Only a few in our army are the bright type. The rest of them live through the normal way of doing business in the armies the world over - if do you do your time, follow orders, don't screw up then you will eventually get promoted.

The tragedy is that most of your compatriots that these geniuses are the ones we should entrust our futures and are willing to let them be the masters of our destiny.

May be we should ask Ali Quli Khan.

everyone knows who plotted the Kargil mission .. heck Indian intelligence had recording of pervez musharraf back then ...
everyone knows how NS was forced to go to US to get India to cease fire .. It was also confirmed in general zaini book ..
if NS knew about this plan, then I have one question, what benefit it could have provided to NS ? and as India was about to attack Pakistan on Lahore and Kasoor, did we have strength to stop that attack when even China was not supporting us ?
