Nawab Bugti case: ATC orders arrest of Musharraf and Aziz

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sibi on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for several officials of the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in a case involving the 2006 killing of Baloch chieftain Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Judge Nawaz Khan Barakzai issued arrest warrants for Pervez Musharraf himself, his prime minister Shaukat Aziz, and his interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, then top government officials of Balochistan, including chief minister Jam Mohammad Yusuf, governor Awais Ahmed Ghani and the home minister.

The sessions court in Kohlu had sent this case through the provincial high court to the ATC on July 4. The court ordered that the accused be produced before it on July 18 the next date of hearing.

Nawab Akbar Bugti, the chief of Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP) was killed on August 26 in 2006 during a military operation in the Kohlu district of Balochistan.

Judicial Magistrate-VI in Quetta had already issued arrest warrants for all the accused in the Bugti murder case while Jam Yousuf had been issued protective bail by the Sindh High Court while his counsel had moved an application in the Balochistan
High Court seeking interim bail for his client.

The Bugti murder case was filed on the complaint of Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, eldest surviving son of the late Nawab.
