LONDON/KARACHI: Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s former member and Minister Nadya Gabol has decided to join Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) after parting ways with the MQM over the issue of Layari, her constituency.

Nadya Gabol confirmed to The News in a conversation that she will be joining the ranks of PML-N “just because the PML-N is serious about changing the destiny of Pakistan and it has an economic plan for the country, unlike other parties interested in hoarding wealth for personal gains”.

Ms Gabol will announce her decision at a press conference today in Karachi but her aides have aided her not to reveal the venue of the press conference for “security reasons”.

After she quit the MQM in a shock decision a few weeks ago, it was believed that she will join the PPP, as Lyari until recently was considered the stronghold of PPP, but the former parliamentarian decided to join the PML-N which will surprise many as PML-N is not known to enjoy strong local support.

Nadya Gabol, who is dual national and was raised in Manchester, explained why she has decided to join PML-N. “It’s a party which is realistic about the scale and magnitude of the problem Pakistan is facing. Under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, PML-N is serious about dealing with the issues including serious law and order situation in Karachi.

All other parties are interested in preserving the interests of their leaders and their relatives. That’s the kind of selfish politics which has failed to deliver for areas like Lyari which desperately cry for help. I will lobby with the PML-N leadership to help the youth of Lyari get into education and into decent jobs.”At the time of leaving the MQM, Ms Gabol had said that she was answering “wishes of the people of Lyari” and it was on their insistence that she had quit the MQM.

She said that what’s happening in Lyari is heart-breaking for everyone and urgent steps must be taken to take control of the situation in Lyari.Nadia Gabol is daughter of Sardar Abdul Latif Gabol who enjoys massive local support and it is believed that he doesn’t see eye to eye with the PPP over the local situation in Lyari. Many people now believe that the PPP used Lyari votes but did nothing to bring into education fold the youth.
