Please do not read too much of Religion into this conflict.
This conflict and desires for ethnic cleansing is rooted in NATIONALISM, the biggest killer of humans in the history and a horrific tool in the hands of the state and the elite.
Please go through at least a hundred years long history of the conflict to get the gist of the animosity among the people and political sloganeering and usage of this ethnic divide by successive Burmese regimes.

Hv u even watched the clip, a monk in orange is clearly saying he is trying to defend his religion ( by committing genocide against muslims) , I wonder wn brutality or even genocide is against muslims, hw scholars and nobel people come to argue and create excuses for such barbarian acts, and see wn the culprit is muslim than it is absolutely because of his religion. Shame on world and its inhabitants for being sielent and blind on what is happening to Rohingian muslims.

Please do not misconstrue what I have commented. I'm sorry if, unknowingly, I have offended you in any manner or I was not clear enough to convey my reply. I am not justifying or condoning the acts of these monks who are committing crimes on the name of religion.

I know, the victims of this conflict are Muslims and they are the sole target and they are left defenseless by the whole of nations including the Burmese state to face these crimes.
However, the poster of this piece intended to put blame on the religion for these criminal acts by the Buddhist community of Arakan - which I do not agree. The Buddhism or say any other religion is not the cause of this conflict and ethnic cleansing. The religions, the Buddhism or Islam, do not teach to engage in crimes or wars.
Here the root of the conflict is the control of the region of Arakan (which for a long time was independent and separate from Burma until the British took control of the region). I was referring to the political struggle and the conflicts during these times between the Rohingyas who were Muslims and the rest of the tribes who belonged to Buddhism. The division is ethnic in the origin and hence it is the nationalism that is to be blamed. Rohingya were erroneously (because both the census data and the history do not confirm that they are the migrants) called them the outsiders/bangalis to maintain the ethnic purity. Historically, the tribes of Arakan were ethnically and politically closely related with the region of Chittagong in Bangladesh than with the Burma proper, consequently both groups struggled for the future/independence of Arakan region with different visions.
The problem become acute when the Burmese government, to appease the Rakhines of Arakan, declared that the Rohingya were not the citizens of Burma. The Burmese junta tried to appease a certain sect of the Buddhist; and they had discriminated the Chinese Buddhist the same as they did to Muslims. With the similar political interests, the current democratic Burmese government is perpetuating the old policies. This is just the tip of the problem and conflict to begin.

My request was very simple – the monks of Rakhines along with other Buddhist tribes who are killing the Muslims and want to evict them are using religion, however their purpose is to grab the lands and control the province. Similarly the politicians in Rangoon are going along to win the votes of the Buddhist parties/pressure groups who consider Burma as the hub of Theravada Buddhism.

You have every right to differ, but I’m of the opinion that the cause of conflict is nationalism/ethnicity/land grab/prejudice/politics in the guise of religious divide – not the religion per se.

R u serious? Really? Pakistan is not an ideal country for minorities too, but hw can any sane person compare this brutality to individual incidents happened in Pakistan. Pakistan is never accused of state level or anykind of genocide or mass killings. Dont know hw u managed to write this comment.
