HONG KONG: Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf said on Wednesday he would launch a new party on October 1, as the retired general plots a return to the frontlines of the restive countrys turbulent politics.
Musharraf also accused Afghan President Hamid Karzai of lacking legitimacy but urged the West to stay the course against the Taliban and not to abandon the restive region.
Im going to a declare a party on October 1. We have to bring about a new political culture in Pakistan, he told reporters in Hong Kong after addressing an annual investors forum organised by the CLSA brokerage.
The 67-year-old Musharraf, who lives in self-imposed exile in London, shrugged off the threat of possible legal action arising from his years of military rule of Pakistan. There are elements opposed to me, political elements, and they are the ones who engineer these cases. One has to face that. Im very confident nothing can happen (on my eventual return home), he said.
Musharraf, who plans to stand for parliament at the next general election in 2013, did not say where he would launch his new party but reports in Pakistan have said the October 1 event will take place in London.
In a BBC interview last week, Musharraf vowed to restore the battered countrys self-confidence and said he thought he couldbecome president again.
As army chief, Musharraf ousted a civilian government in a bloodless coup in 1999. He was president from 2001 and has lived abroad since resigning in 2008. Pakistan is back under civilian rule and is currently facing catastrophic floods.
Zardari and Bhuttos 21-year-old son Bilawal is being groomed for his own political career, but Musharraf said Pakistan had to turn a page on its dynastic politics. Im totally against this system where it becomes a family domain in all political parties. The essence of democracy is not there in Pakistan, he said in Hong Kong.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Musharraf made Pakistan a key ally of then US president George W Bush in the war on terror, but faced a resurgence of militancy in the tribal areas near Afghanistan. He had a dismal relationship with Karzai, who regained power last year in an election that was widely decried as fraudulent. There must be a legitimate government in Afghanistan. He does not have that legitimacy, Musharraf told the CLSA forum.
But with US President Barack Obama planning a troop drawdownfrom mid-2011, Musharraf warned that abandoning Afghanistan would be playing into the hands of the Taliban and al Qaeda and said quitting is not an option.
The whole world is against the Taliban. So why cant we win? We can win and will win. But we will suffer casualties. No one is analysing the effect of abandoning the region on Afghanistan, Pakistan and the world.

Nothing can be done legally against me: Musharraf

HONG KONG: Former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday said that he was willing to face any cases on his planned return to Pakistan, but was sure that nothing could be done legally against him.

Im prepared to face that (any cases) for the sake of Pakistan. And I know since whatever I did has all the legal backing and legal cover, Im very confident that nothing can happen legally against me, Musharraf said, while speaking on the sidelines of an investor conference in Hong Kong.

He said he would announce the establishment of a new party, the All-Pakistan Muslim League, in London on October 1 and outline his political platform.

My going back is dependent certainly on an environment to be created in Pakistan, Musharraf said, but added, I would say with certainty in the next elections, whenever the signs of the next elections come up, I will be there in Pakistan.

He acknowledged he had lost popularity in Pakistan. However, he said he was confident he could rebuild a support base rooted in youth and others disillusioned with politics. agencies

I doubt in his return , but its possible if G.Qayani approves it. If not can face lots of trouble from PML (n) , PPP , and Pakistan Supreme Court , He was Lucky to fly out , can put himself in danger by returning back home .
1-Breaking Constitution of Pakistan
2-Killing of Bugti
3-Killing of Benazir Bhutto
4-Strougle of Judiciary
and many more ....................... reasons to put him in prison ;-)

Well this list of crimes can still be prosecuted against him in abstentia, but were'nt. He spent a considerable time in Pakistan after leaving the presidency, but PPP and PML-N failed to even lodge FIR against him. His worry are'nt these jamhuri parties whose performance has made his tenure look like the heydays, even if they want to they won't be able to. His problem is actually the army. After 3 years of corrupt jamhuriyat he is waiting for the green signal from the army and once he gets that, he will return.

I bet you this is precisely the thinking of this raspoteen. Without which he is just an spent force. He must have left lots of his croonies in the Army. Remember, this is the same army which ordered its soldiers not to wear the army uniform in Public during his era. I also bet you, these Army generals waiting for the same period once again where they had to hid their uniform from public.

Heard about rasputin, but what the hell is raspoteen? The only force adjudged "spent force" in Pakistan rite now is jamhuriyat and its parasites bleeding PAkistan and they're just halfway thru their term. Talking about uniform in public, it seems you have'nt travelled around Pakistan, all over from Karachi to Lahore to Quetta to Peshawar there are housing areas called DHA and cantt where even city govt. nazim was'nt able to enter without consent from the authority chairman. Army is big because feudal jamhuriyat have ruined Pakistan for their own short term benefit. Political parties' rallies and protests have claimed more civilians' lives than army operations. Jamhuriyat has contributed to financially murder PAkistanis for years.
People used to talk about trade deficit during Musharraf rule now their is no trade left with IMF invited again by PPP[last time in 1993] to finish whats left of his time. There was talk about industrial growth in his time now most of the industry has shifted to Nepal and Bangladesh, with soaring unemployment.
Jamhuriyat people like you are out of touch from PAkistanis' everyday struggle. Jamhuriyat has become a curse word in Pakistan. People just want to rid themselves of this incurable disease call jamhuriyat.

I mentioned the soldiers not going in to Public places with their Uniform, not that these colonies are not protected by security.Of course, it would be high security there since , they couldn't even go out of the parameter of their housing without fearing their lives during the dictator time.It makes sense to have this kind of security when your lives are at stake and even the common people hate you for what your upper leadership brough on to the country. Surrounding a protecting army enclave wasn't the topic of my point.

Army is not big because of the fuedalist. Army Generals are themselves fuedalists.Every General who retires with Pakistan Army gets many acers of land for his retirement. Army make these retired Generals fuedalist by themselves eveyr year. why would you blame Jhamuriyat for that ?

Do you know how many people died because of Political parties protest ? What are the figures which exceed army killing civilians ?

Democracy brought back your 90 thousand soldiers who surrendered to Indian forces during 1970 war. The atomic bomb you so much proud of was started by a democratic elected representative. Thousand miles of the occupied land was negotiated and released by civilian leaders from india after the 1970 war. The technology of these billistic missiles you are experementing everyday is the result of the policy of a civilian leadership. The 1970 war and subsequent surrender and breakup of the country was during the Dictatorship time. The fasad of Afghanistan war and the fallout on pakistan from it later was during the army dictator's time. The kargil episode was done by a leech who happened to become a cheif of the army staff by favouratism. The Nro and its beneficiary who are ruling Pakistan now is the gift from the army dictator.
