I saw a post where Maulana Tariq Jameel was replying to Salim Safi that he had advised IK not to do dharna and focus on KP instead. Salim Safi got the answer what he was hoping for but it is not such a simple matter.
People do not look at the perspective when they talk about issues. IK is on a mission to take out corruption from elections, like he did with neutral umpires in cricket. If he is successful in his mission , this nation will reap benefits by being able to elect true leaders, just like the cricket world is controversy free in terms of umpiring. With each election, the level of rigging is going up.
If IK had not taken up this task , PMLN & PPP would have very conveniently carried on with their corrupt governance.
Dharna was a political movement and that is what opposition forces do. The pressure created by this movement was so immense that every institution in Pakistan is feeling pressure from it. This wave of accountability is because of the pressure of increased public awareness. Maulana sahib could be a big religious scholar but is not a leader.
What IK did was act of a leader who leads from the front. Leader also thinks out of the box. He must have received this advice from many other wise people and that was an obvious choice too. There was no personal benefit for him in this huge and very hardship involved exercise. He had won his seats and he was able to form govt in KP. It was a matter of principle.
To him this issue was the root cause of all the corrupt governance in our beloved country and he had to take a firm stand against it. A half hearted effort would have been of no use. All of status quo proponents and forces are trying their best by implying IK should concentrate on KP and people would vote for him based on his performance in KP. What they forget to realize is that it is not that simple. If we follow the same yard stick, PMLN & PPP would not have been successful after their poor performance in their tenures before this elections. In fact PMLN's votes were doubled.
If something is not done now, results in next elections would be no different. In fact next elections would be a competition in rigging It would be free for all in the next govt and no one would be able to stop Pakistan from becoming a banana republic.
