Marches, riots and burning flags: More people showed up at protest than Trumps inauguration

Under cloudy skies, Donald Trump painted a bleak picture of the US as he vowed to end the American carnage in his first speech as president.

But outside the heavily controlled parameters of the Capitol Building, protesters did not feel appeased by his words.


And the sentiment was felt around the world as people on the streets marched, burnt US flags and rioted.

A protester took a picture while holding a sign that reads IMPEACH in downtown Washington where 217 people were arrested.
The riot led to police using tear gas and stun grenades.
