PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to convene its own all-parties conference (APC) as national consensus emerges on peace talks with the Taliban.

According to a handout issued by the provincial secretariat, the aim of the local APC is to come up with a durable solution on the issue of law and order.
In light of the APC organised by the centre and attended by all mainstream political parties earlier this week, the K-P government will chalk out its own line of action on how lasting peace can be achieved in the region.

Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak has asked the PTI central leadership, Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Jamaat-e-Islami minister Siraj ul Haq, Qaumi Watan Party’s Sikandar Sherpao and Awami Jamhori Ittehad leader and provincial minister Sheram Tarakai to shoulder responsibility of the meeting and contact all political parties of the province. The CM said all stakeholders should be consulted before the meeting is organised.

Besides the leadership of all political parties, civil society representatives and religious scholars will also be extended the invitation to attend the conference, the handout read.

Meanwhile, speaking to journalists after the assembly session, Information Minister Shah Farman said it has yet to be decided when the APC will be convened. He added talks are part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s manifesto and they have decided to hold an APC to create better understanding between all stakeholders in the province. “We have the mandate from the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the centre should accept our mandate.”

The information minister further said the federal government also wants a solution for conflict areas and wants to take provinces in the loop on issues of law and order.

The prime minister and the army chief discussed implementation of the APC resolution in a meeting last Wednesday.
The prime minister reportedly said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman could be taken aboard as a facilitator to begin the talks. The army chief, however, noted that all prominent religious leaders should be consulted, particularly those having close contacts with the Taliban leadership.

I feel that the Taliban can be negotiated with if we stop supporting the USA and drone war on them. We had no problems with them prior to the war in Afghanistan . No doubt they are hard to please but we have no choice other then to do that. To continue killing them will rightfully infuriate them even more, they breed very fast as well. They are excellent fighters as well who in the past have often been called our back up or second army supporting the main one. In any confrontation with Bharat these mountain diehards are invaluable.

There is no way out ...Pakistan will fight with them later or sooner. This war is our fate. Negotiation mean give them a space to establish another state in the state...

National consensus: Imrans party to hold national conference on terrorism

ISLAMABAD: A week after the All Parties Conference hosted by the government, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to convene a National Conference to chalk out a strategy to counter the menace of terrorism.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan will preside over the conference scheduled for October 5 in Islamabad. The PTIs conference will focus on how to ensure peace in the volatile areas, particularly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. More than 500 political and religious scholars will attend the conference, which will issue a white paper, highlighting Islamic teachings on peace.

Sharing the proposed agenda of the conference, the PTI Religious Affairs Wing President Mufti Abdul Qawi said participants of the meeting would take up the issue of drone strikes and conflicts within or across our borders.

All political parties whose ideologies are compatible with the PTIs manifesto will be invited, Qawi said.
He, however, made it clear that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) would not be invited to the moot, as these parties have failed to deliver on their promises.

Meanwhile, PTIs Deputy Information Secretary Adnan Randhawa said his party had initiated efforts to evolve consensus at intellectual and religious level that Islam is a religion of peace and it does not allow inhuman acts.

He said PTI regarded drone strikes as a major cause of the rising insurgency in Pakistan. Planned National Conference is an initiative to strengthen continued efforts to bring peace back to Pakistan, he told The Express Tribune.
It will be PTIs first ever attempt to convene a national conference. But analysts are not much optimistic about the possible outcome of the planned conference.

The two in-camera sessions of the parliament also took briefing from heads of top spy agencies and passed recommendations to prepare national security policy but no headway could be made towards peace.

The PTI leadership has a serious cognition crisis when it comes to dealing with terrorism, said Harris Khalique, poet and columnist.
They want to hold dialogue with terrorists in K-P and do not criticise armed operation against terrorists in Karachi. The recent attack on Army personnel is a slap in the face of the last APC, he observed.
